They had always been drawn to each other, a fatal, obsessive need; some might even have said like two magnets with opposite polarities, forced together, no matter how hard they tried to pull away. They were wrong. Oh, they were right about the similarities to a pair of magnets, but they didn't have opposite charges, no, Koschei and Theta had the same charge, the desire and the ability to change the universe, repelling each other, against their will. They forced their way together again and again, and were always pushed away because they couldn't stay, ever.
They claimed it was because they didn't want to change the universe the same way, that Theta wanted to save it, and Koschei, to conquer it. They knew that it wasn't that, not really, but they pretended it was anyway. They were pushed apart because they could so very easily be turned to each other's side and the universe could never let that happen.
Now Theta was alone again, and his loneliness was turning him to darkness. It was wrong for him to be so dark, he would be with Koschei again but this time they would be on the same side, even Koschei knew that could never be allowed to happen.
If they were allowed to be together, then they would destroy the universe. Apart they could change the universe a little, but together it would bend to their will. If Koschei was allowed his way then the universe would be conquered, if Theta was then the universe would be saved and in it's saving be lost. Deep down they knew that this was true and they hated it but couldn't fight it, their will was not stronger than the repulsion.
So they were kept from each other and the universe brought Theta back to the light. The universe was kind though, she allowed them their love, for though the magnets could never remain touching for long, they could love from afar, and a broken heart is better than no heart at all.
