Samwise Gamgee was gardening at Bag End. It was late at night and he had much to do. Ever since he lost his father, Sam hadn't been the same. Could anything go wrong this night? It certainly did.

"Samwise!" Sam's father, the Gaffer, showed up on Bag End's doorstep.

Sam jolted, staring at his father in fright. "F-Father?"

"Yes, what say you we go for a drink, eh?" Gaffer said in joy.

"No, I need to work on the garden. Aren't you dead?" Sam asked, confused.

"I am," Gaffer said, nodding.

"Then what are you doing here?" Sam asked, concerned.

"Oh, because Merry and Pippin are causing the most foul mischief possible. I want you to get rid of them," Gaffer said, raising an eyebrow at his son.

"Get rid of them? What?" Sam asked, alarmed.

"Hmm… good luck," Gaffer disappeared a moment later, leaving Sam disarrayed and confused. A thought crossed his mind. A wicked thought. Sam felt sure he would set forth and do this deed.

.

"Merry? Where's Sam? He's missed lunch," Pippin asked, quite confused.

"Oh, I'm sure he'll be along," Merry said, wondering where Sam was, too.

Sam poked his head out of a bush, a wide smirk on his face. He'd get these two rascals back for sure! He blasted a horn at Merry, jolting the poor hobbit awake and in a confused state.

Sam chuckled, facing his father again. "How did I do?"

"Excellent," Gaffer said, giving Sam a thumbs up.

Sam smiled, enjoying this. "Perfect."

"Sam, who are you talking to?" the Gaffer asked, annoyed.

"Huh?" Sam was pulled back to the present, staring at his work. He didn't mean to upset his father. Oh, was it all a dream?

"Come on. It's time to go in," Gaffer said, leading a despairing Sam inside. Someday, Sam would get those two rascals back! Just wait and see!

Thanks for reading. :) If anyone's wondering where Frodo Baggins and his uncle, Bilbo Baggins, were, they were probably inside Bag End the whole time. :) Bye! :)
