"Your Highness, your mother is here."

"Thank you, send her in," Queen Dalania replied. The handmaiden bowed and Pooja Naberrie entered the room.

"Nadé, my cousin needs our help," Pooja said without preamble.

"What does General Leia need, mother?" the queen asked.

"The First Order rises and the New Republic has to stop them. No one believes her. She and her followers are calling themselves The Resistance. They're fighting back against the First Order, but everyone has dismissed her as a general stuck in a war that they think has ended. I've tried to speak on her behalf in the Senate, but no one wants to believe that the Empire still poses a threat."

"We have had nearly three decades of peace. Of course no one wants that to end," Queen Dalania responded.

"We cannot ignore this threat, Nadé."

"I know that, mother. The Empire is Naboo's burden to hold," the queen reminded her, glancing at a portrait on the wall.

Pooja followed her daughter's eyes and walked towards the portrait. She touched the painted cheek of her aunt and said, "Queen Amidala did her best, but her best was not enough. She was a great queen, but she was young and she was manipulated into calling the Vote of No Confidence that put that deplorable man into power."

"It was not her fault, but, as I said, this is Naboo's burden. It is my duty to ensure that no one finishes what he started. Tell me what General Leia needs."

The queen and the senator spoke for a long time, discussing how to help General Leia, while avoiding suspicion from the Senate. Naboo would quietly support the Resistance's efforts. If the queen had it her way, she would be a fighter for the Resistance, helping her mother's cousin defeat the remnants of the Empire. But her place was on Naboo and she knew that. She would have to settle for helping them, rather than fighting with them. It comforted her to know that that General Leia would lead the Resistance to their inevitable victory. She did not need to see into the future to know that General Leia would never let the First Order win.

When her mother left, the queen walked over to Queen Amidala's portrait. Your daughter is strong, she thought. And so is Naboo. We won't let it happen again.
