Yes, this is my first Bleach fanfic. Actually, it's my first fanfic ever. I have never written one before this. So if it seems like I have no idea what I'm doing, then please keep in mind that I am just starting out. Reviews are welcome.

Yes, I support GinxMatsu. If you don't like that pairing, then don't read this.

Disclaimer: It's obvious what goes in here. I don't own Bleach or any of its characters.

He thought of her every day. Everything around him led somehow, unexplainably, to her. A wave of longing washed over him whenever a memory came to the surface of his mind. Sometimes it became so unbearable he would close his eyes to shut out any more images that could possibly become pain. But even when he enclosed himself in darkness, pictures kept flashing by: strawberry blond hair blowing in the wind, cloudy grey eyes, that free spirited face…

He forgot to remember her this morning. Three Arrancars had started a brawl during the morning meeting, and it had slipped his mind. Why he made it a routine, he didn't know; it was impossible to think about someone twenty four hours a day, wasn't it? Yet he kicked himself for the "mistake". He would think of her twice the more tomorrow, to make up for it.

She had gazed at him with those haunting eyes, filled with conflicting emotions as she released him. That was a rare time in which he couldn't read her expression. It hurt him to see her so confused, not able to understand. He desperately wanted to explain in that moment, tell her everything, that it wasn't her fault he was leaving- but then he soared upward, leaving her behind.

Looking around Hueco Mundo, the sky seemed clear today. Puffy clouds contrasted against the clear blue. And once again, Matsumoto appeared in his thoughts. She always seemed so pure and free. Just like what he was looking at now.

If she was the day, then he could be the night. Many thought of him as a traitor and nothing more. Pure evil, some said. But that evil was merely a veil covering the stars and the true black. If torn away… then the heavens would be seen, pure and free as well. He wanted it to be lifted, not for his sake but for hers.

She loved him. He had never doubted it. And she had never needed to say it. The tender way she looked at him, the regret in her voice when they had been sorted into different divisions… he had known all along. It was his strength, his fuel. And he loved her, too. That he had never doubted, either.

Together, they made one day. Light and darkness. A perfect whole. It filled his heart with joy, with happiness, but with heartache as well. Because they were on opposite sides now, split by a huge chasm. It would be possible that they would engage in battle too, against each other in a duel to kill…

But that day, though ever approaching, was not yet here. He had to savor with the time he had left. Settling, Gin relaxed.

And thought once again about their day.

So that's it. Tell me what you think. Thanks for reading.
