Darkness Falls
A/N: I don't own these characters, Marvel does. Reviews make me happy.
There was blood. So much blood. More than should be in a single body. She couldn't remember where the blood had come from. Was it hers? Or did it belong to the man crouching next to her? The man with the Devil's eyes, the man who had been the love of her life. Until it all went wrong.
She felt numb, but didn't feel any pain. Then the blood couldn't be hers, could it? Then why couldn't she breathe, why couldn't she hear the battle that she knew was raging around her? Why could she only gaze into the black and red eyes that she had so long loved? Eyes now clouded over with tears, incalculable anguish, and a hint of anger.
"Re—" she tried to speak, but in that instant the numbness had been replaced with a stabbing pain in her chest, making her quake in agony.
"Chere?" he breathed out, slowly reaching his blood-stained hand towards her cheek. She flinched involuntarily, momentarily forgetting that a simple touch could no longer hurt. Not her, not those who touched her. But everything hurt now.
Remy cupped her cheek weakly and she reveled in the gentle touch, even if his hand felt intolerably cold. She attempted to smile at him, but didn't know if she had accomplished her goal, her face was far too numb for her to tell. Maybe it was cold here, and that was the cause of her numbness, the bitter chill of his hand. But it looked warm. There was sun, trees in the first bloom of Spring. The grass on which she was lying looked green and fresh. When had she fallen to the ground? Or had she laid down beside him?
The sun was still shining, but darkness seemed to be creeping around the edges of her vision. Leaving only him in color, in clear focus. She garnered her strength, ignored the pain in her chest, and whispered the only words that had any meaning for her anymore.
"Ah love you, Remy."
"Je t'aime, Anna."
She wasn't sure which of them had spoken more feebly. It seemed neither of them could speak. Or maybe she just couldn't hear anymore. The blood pooled ever further out from them.
The encroaching darkness met the ever spilling blood, then overtook even the crimson.
Darkness fell upon them.
