"Luke, Luke make her stop!" trembled Maia as she slowly backed away from her mother. Her mother's eyes were an eerie yellowish green and her voice came out rasping like a snake's belly on gravel. "MY CHILD, SAVE HIM FROM HIS FATE!" she screeched as she grabbed Maia's shoulders and shook her "HERMES SAVE THEM FROM THEIR FUTURE!" Then her mother collapsed leaving four-year-old Maia to do the same.

Maia woke up with a start, as hot tears stung her eyes as she remembered what had happened the night before. Luke ran into the room apparently gasping for air "Maia!" he exclaimed as he wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her hair, sobbing. "Lukey what are you upset about?" Maia asked with huge, blue eyes. But Luke couldn't tell her…. she'd hate him and would think him a monster. "Lukey, tell me, please." She looked close to tears. "It's nothing Maia." He managed a small smile and picked her up as she giggled. "Now do want breakfast or are we gonna give it to Mr. Hydra?" She made a face. "No, he can starve." Luke laughed and nuzzled her cheek. Maia loved making Luke laugh. He carried her downstairs not bothering to wake up his mom, carefully and quietly looking for food. He picked up a piece of moldy bread and nearly threw up. That was defiantly not something to give a hungry four-year-old. Luke finally found a piece of bread that only had just a little bit of mold and scraped it off. Still a bit sick to his stomach he went into the living room and found Maia looking eager to devour something that wasn't burnt cookies or moldy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Luke chuckled and set the bread in front of her as she hugged him. Luke smelt her sweet brown hair and ruffled it. Maia ate the bread and snuggled next to Luke and beamed. Luke felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. He had to join with Kronos in a couple of days…maybe he could send her to camp Half-Blood. Maia would be safe there until he could persuade Kronos to let her live. He stroked her dark brown hair as she snuggled against him. She got up and picked up a picture of her mother and another man and looked at him with a puzzled look. "Oh that's…umm…. our dad…. before he left." He said quickly. Maia jumped up on his lap. "Why he'd leave?" Luke struggled to come up with something. "He left because… well… he had stuff to do and he couldn't stay."

He though that was a horrible explanation and Maia thought so too. "The truth Lukey!" Maia looked desperate. "I want to know where you go every month, I want to know who my father is, why mom glows and all that weird stuff, why you have that scar on your eye!" She started to cry. Luke started to tremble. "Maia, I can't right now, but I promise I will tell you." He kissed her on the cheek and hugged her, still trembling. Maia looked at him and kissed him on the cheek. "I love you." Luke stared into those bright blue eyes. "I do too, and I always will."
