Dear Mr. Carson,

For some time now I have been very ill. By this point I'm sure you already know that I have breast cancer. Or had breast cancer. There is something that you ought to know. I love you and I always have. Ever since the first day we started working together. I know you love me back, but I don't want you to wallow in my death too much, Mr. Carson.

Many people throughout my life have asked me if I was happy working for the Crawley family. I always said yes, because I do dearly love them, but one reason it was so great is because of you. Everyday I woke up knowing that someone loved and cared for me. You were always on my side and I always one yours even if we didn't exactly marvel the other's opinions. Once, a few years back, I asked you if you had ever regretted not having a family and a wife. I hope you know that I was asking if you regretted not asking me to marry you, but I don't think you caught on.

You are my closest family member I have. Please tell Mrs. Patmore, Anna, Mr. Bates, Daisy, Ms. O'Brien and all the others how much their support meant to me. You all made me feel less scared for the inevitable. I will always be grateful for that. Just remember you were always my favorite. I love you Mr. Carson.

Sincerely,

Ms. Hughes

P.S. Give Anna my position. The only person who keeps Downton running is that sweet woman. She deserves it.
