I hadn't seen Alex last period, so I was a little worried. I had asked around to find him and I kept being directed to an unused classroom in the back of the school. Upon approaching it, I could here crying and screaming, immediately knowing it was my best friend. I slowly opened the door, stepping in to see Alex sat in the floor with tears streaming down his face and a death grip on his sandy brown hair.
[Alex ran a hand through his hair as his breathing getting heavier. He was currently in an empty classroom, he didn't want anyone to see him in this state. "Alex, why don't you kill yourself? You're pathetic, useless, nobody wants you." He muttered. "No! Stop it Alex, you don't want to kill yourself, you don't you don't! You do, Alex, let's face it, you're horrible to everyone, just die already. Who would miss you?" Alex gripped his hair, sobbing into his knees. "Stop it stop it stop it." He screamed, looking up as a familiar face entered the room. Jack Barakat, one of Alex's closest friends. Alex bit his lip, trying his hardest to stop the voices. He just wanted to scream.]
I instantly stepped over to him, kneeling down beside my shaking friend.
"Lex," I whispered, "Alex what's wrong?" The boy in question only shook his head at me, eyes closed tight and his face streaked with tears. I placed my hands on Alex's shoulders in a comforting way, hoping to calm him slightly. "Lex, answer me, please."
"What would you do?" Alex whispered simply.
I was confused by the question, unsure of what he meant. "What do you mean?"
"I mean," Alex murmured, "if I killed myself, what would you do?"
I was in shock obviously, I'd never known a life without Alex, and I didn't want to have to. "A-Alex," I started out shakily, "I-I don't know what I'd do without you. I mean, you're my best friend, and have been for as long as I can remember... I don't want to worry about not having you by my side."
Alex just looked at me and whimpered. "Just help me Jack. Please, please, please help me.."
I pulled him into a hug, not thinking twice about it. "Let's get the hell out of here," I whispered in his ear.
Alex stood after I did, keeping close as I lead him out the back entrance and towards my car. He suddenly froze, choking out a few words, "I can't do this anymore," before bolting to his house.
I instantly dropped everything, racing after him. By the time I made it to the door, I felt like I was going to collapse. "Alex!" I called through the house, wondering where he could be.
[Alex had already made it to the upstairs bathroom, sitting up on the counter he looked at the sharpened piece of metal between his fingers.]
Frantically, I searched all the rooms in the house, and after finally making it upstairs, I found Alex's bathroom door locked. "Lex, open up!" I yelled, banging my fists on the door to no avail.
[Alex ignored him as he pressed the cold blade to his forearm, pulling it across. He watched as the scarlet colored blood seeped out, streaming down his arm and dripping to the tile floor. The boy did this until the skin was hardly visible compared to the blood.]
"Alex!" I yelled, trying to shoulder the door open, but noting was working. I felt powerless, so helpless because I knew what Alex was doing in there and I couldn't stop him. "Lex, please.." I whispered after a few moments, giving up.
"Under the mattress," I somehow managed to hear him mumbled. I immediately went and put my hand between the mattress and box spring, pulling out a key. No, not just any key, the one to the bathroom.
[At this point, Alex had decided to get up and unlock the door. But as soon his feet hit the ground and he stood up, he fell, slowly submerging into unconsciousness.]
I heard a thud on the other side of the wall, so hurrying over to the I unlocked it, only to find Alex laid on the floor partially conscious. "Lex," I kneeled beside him. "Hang on Lex. You'll be alright. Just please, hold on. For me, at least..."
