Yukiteru Amano had no idea what he was doing.
Before this whole survival game had started, all he'd wanted was for life to keep going on as it was. Sure, he'd wanted friends, but he had never been quite sure how to go about getting them. He didn't want to make a fool out of himself... so he'd kept quiet. Alone. It wasn't that bad, being all alone; there were certainly worse things.
But now...
Now he had Yuno Gasai following him around, and he'd be lying if he said that she wasn't protecting him every step of the way. That was one of the nice things about her - the other two being her looks and the times she wasn't being extremely creepy. Still, those times were always overshadowed by the creepy parts; the dead bodies in her house and the look on her face whenever he'd talk to someone that wasn't here, especially if it was a girl, and the way that she'd follow him everywhere. At least the other kid would keep his distance.
The other kid, of course, being Aru Akise, and his following wasn't really a problem. It was more of a... they just kept running into each other. At the bus stop, at the mall, at school. It wasn't that bad. He liked Akise. He maybe touched him a little bit more than was completely necessary some of the time, but it wasn't like when Yuno touched him. It was... sweeter somehow.
But now it was three A.M., and Yuki had managed to sneak out of his house before Yuno got there. He suspected she slept in his backyard sometimes, but he'd checked before leaving, and now he was hurriedly walking through the streets, hands deep in his pockets and hat pulled further down on his head than he suspected it had ever been. It was cold, though, and he was glad that he had it.
It was four before he ran into Aru Akise. He'd managed to find his way to Akise's house on accident, and now the other boy was standing there, just staring. Like he always did.
"Uh," Yuki said. "Hi."
"Hello," Akise said, raising an eyebrow. "It's a bit early to be out and about, isn't it?"
There was a pause, and then Akise continued.
"Is it because of Yuno Gasai?"
Yuki nodded, a bit pink. Akise smiled a little.
"You can come in, if you want," he said. "My parents won't mind. There's plenty of room."
"Sure," Yuki said, because he was tired, and cold, and overall just in need of a warm place to stay for the two or three hours he had before he had to wake up. But maybe he didn't have to wake up. It was Saturday, after all. It wasn't like he had to go to school or anything. Maybe he could just stay sleeping in Akise's house until noon, or three, or maybe the whole day! Yuno would certainly never look there; he suspected she didn't even know where Akise lived-
Her diary.
She'd know that he was at Akise's house, and she'd find it. He had an hour or two, tops. Akise must have seen the look on his face, because he sighed.
"Her diary," he said, taking Yuki's arm and pulling him into the house. "But, seeing as you got here without her interfering, it's likely that she's asleep. That may or may not be due to the sleeping pills put into a glass of water she had upon getting home. She was going to stop you from getting here, but she should be out for another few hours. I don't believe she knows where I live, either, so that will take her some more time."
"You drugged her?" Yuki asked, and Akise just looked at him with that smile. "I mean, it's good, I guess, because otherwise she'd be really freaking me out and trapping me in my house or somewhere else, but... you drugged her?"
"Yes," Akise said. "And aren't you glad I did?"
Yuki had to admit, he sort of was.
