First sentence fic prompt

flicka-gonna-fuck-you-up asked: So I'm going to go... Bering/Wells "Are you always this annoyingly cute?"

Helena stared into Dickens' eyes, but the purring continued. Though the feline seemed to know and understand that despite the same image and smells this human wasn't the one who took him from the animal shelter as a kitten, the love for Helena didn't decrease one bit. He even managed to get along with Trailer, if one considers stealing a dog bed and said dog allowing it out of fear 'getting along'. And of course Dickens' biggest fan was Claudia, who more than once lifted him to the sky while singing The Circle of Life. Even Myka, his human's mate, even came around to the cat, patting his head in passing or getting him treats from the store runs. Dickens figured out quickly which noise he had to make to get pretty much anything he wanted from that one.

Dickens merely flicked his tail in response to his 'human but not really'. She had the same voice, but the tone was different. He refused to let her be indifferent to him, just as she herself didn't let him remain the scared stray who was abandoned by his mother. One day he will hear her reading the books of his namesake while he gets his head pets, and he will groom her because really, she doesn't take care of her fur properly. He will make the same sounds to her to receive whatever he wanted, just as he had before. He will be patient with her as she had been with him and this new family of his will be just fine.

Helena sighed, but slowly reached her hand out to Dickens, who headbutt the palm in his consent. He tried not to seem as if the last time Helena had pet him was too long ago. He purred for her and waited for her to praise him as she used to, and he will keep waiting if he needed to. though they weren't two lonely souls anymore, they would always need each other and his human will realize that. Dickens remained still as Helena pet his head, and even scratched under his chin, that was until the human Steve was heard. He flicked his tail again, and went to see if Steve was willing to share any of his food, as he knew he was never going to get any luck with the other male, Pete.

"I see how it is. I have to have something in my hand for you to let me pet you for more than two seconds. Why am I talking to a cat?"

"Because Trailer went for a walk?" Myka asked as she came into the bedroom, huddling against the door frame to allow the cat out.

"True. Fine, we'll leave the door open."

After Myka took off her jacket and revealed Helena's favorite vest, she walked to her fiance' and gave her a quick kiss. "He'll come back around, if you let him," the agent said.

In the hallway, Dickens flicked his tail again as he stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at the human Leena, who he loved because she always crawls under the couch for his toys for him. He meowed at her until he saw the vacuum cleaner and decided to investigate the kitchen later. He trotted then back into the shared bedroom of his humans and jumped on the foot of the bed.

"See?" Myka said as she watched Dickens climb on Helena's head and proceed to groom her.

Helena sighed but allowed the attention as Myka picked up the discarded Christmas Carol to finish, since a mission had taken them from their new tradition. Dickens' purr became louder as time went on, and slowly he fell asleep in Helena's hair. Myka could only laugh as she closed the book an hour later, kissed Helena, and soon fell asleep.
