a/n - I wrote this a while ago as a drabble for the Checkmated Forums (as morganalefey), but I was quite fond of it and thought I'd share! Hope you like it!

Oh, and the usual disclaimers apply - characters, places, all Jo Rowling's. Only the imagination is mine!

I Need to Tell You Something . . . .

There was nothing for it. She was going to have to tell him. She'd put it off for long enough now.

Summoning her Gryffindor courage Hermione took in a deep breath and marched across the common room, where Ron was chatting to Seamus.

"Er, Ron, could I have a word?"

Ron turned to face his best friend, his blue eyes meeting her nervous brown ones.

"'Course Hermione, you don't need to ask," he looked puzzled.

"Well, it's kind of private," she replied, staring intently at her feet. Seamus smirked and got to his feet. "Don't worry about me, I should be meeting Lavender – oh! Five minutes ago! See you later!" he rushed out of the common room as though his feet were on fire.

Ron chuckled at the sight, then turned his attention to Hermione. "What is it Hermione? You look worried."

"No, I'm fine. It's just, well, I have something I need to tell you," she chewed her lip nervously. Ron was fascinated by the action and had to clear his head before replying.

"Tell me. It's okay," he said softly. Could this be it? Had Hermione had the courage to do what he couldn't and tell him how she felt? He found himself holding his breath.

"Ron," she hesitated, "I need to tell you, well, your flies are undone."

"Hermione I – what? Oh, bloody hell!" he turned away from her quickly and zipped his jeans up, hiding the bright orange of his Chudley Cannons boxer shorts.

He turned back round, the colour of his ears clashing for dominance with the colour of his hair. "Thanks Hermione. I went swimming in the Great Lake earlier. I suppose I didn't dress myself properly."

Hermione smiled at his adorable blush.

"Er, Hermione?" it was Ron's turn to look nervous. She looked up at him expectantly.

"Yes Ron?"

" How did you come to notice? That my flies were undone I mean?"

It was Ron's turn to smile as Hermione blushed a very pretty shade of pink.
