Journeying for Him
"Don't even try it, Rin. You'll never escape me." Franchesca sneered.
"Do you really think you can find him now? It's been twelve years! You don't even remember what he looked like. Give up."
The small girl looked up at the woman who had been keeping her prisoner for so many years. The hatred she had developed towards her had gone off the charts, and now, she had to get out. She had to find him. No matter what, she had to find him.
"I…"
Rin slowly stood, facing Franchesca. Her legs shook with fear as she backed away, towards the only exit, the one she had been hoping to find for so long. This woman had been working for years to crush Rin's happiness and confidence, and over time, she had succeeded, but now it was time for Rin to stand up. With the exit in sight, with it so close to her, the confidence she had lost so long ago returned, enough for her to face the woman who had ruined her life and taken away the one person dearest to her.
"I…I will find him!" she yelled. The sudden outburst startled Franchesca, but she just laughed.
"Oh, you think so? Get real, Rin! The only reason you are still alive today is because of me. I gave you food, a roof over your head, and all this out of the goodness of my heart. You can't live without me. Give it up." Franchesca began moving closer.
"Come with me now, Rin." She was now only inches away from where Rin was standing. She reached out the hand that Rin despised so much and set it on her shoulder with a sickening gentleness. "This little circus act is over-"
"No!" Rin slapped the hand away from her and backed away; her confidence hadn't left her yet.
"I won't stay here any longer! I'm…I'm going to find him, no matter what you say! I won't listen to you anymore! I…I'm leaving this place! Forever!"
In that instant Rin turned and ran out the door, leaving Franchesca in a daze. Finally, she was out. She welcomed the sunlight hitting her skin with pleasure, knowing how long it has been since she last saw the sun.
Twelve years…would Len remember her? Franchesca was right…it had been too long, so Rin didn't even remember what he looked like. But he's her twin. They're connected. As long as both of them are still alive, they will be able to find each other, no matter how long it has been. Rin sprinted away from the house that had kept her isolated for all those stolen years, not daring to look back.
Len, she thought to herself, I'm coming for you.
"Fine then!" Franchesca screamed behind her. "I was getting sick of looking at your disgusting face anyway! Just don't expect me to take you in again when life out there leaves you…"
Rin didn't stay long enough to hear the rest. She just ran, leaving her terrors behind, and doing something she hadn't done for twelve years. Laughing.
