We're friends right?
A/N
I've noticed some people are saying my stories are quite short. Thing is, I find it much easier to write good stories if they're short. In other words, short short stories are my thing. Not complaining or anything, I'm just wanting to note that out.
He was lying on the grass, she was sitting down, leaning on the tree next to them.
They had just finished a nice picnic after a beautiful day. After a few moments of silence, Temari decided to break it.
"Shikamaru?" She began.
"Mm?" Shikamaru remained lying down.
"We're friends, right?"
Shikamaru opened his eyes and put his hands under his head. "Define what you think a friend is."
Temari looked up into the sky. "I guess a friend is someone who cares about you. A friend is someone who's willing to talk to you about almost anything, as well able to listen to you talk about almost anything. A friend is someone who knows you have faults but doesn't dwell on them."
She paused after that statement. "Doesn't dwell too muchon them, anyway." She heard Shikamaru chuckle and she continued.
"Someone who hangs out with you, who eats picnics with you, who sometimes thinks about how you're doing and who likes you being around. That's what I think a friend is."
Silence came over them for another while. She almost expected him to be asleep.
"No," Shikamaru began. "We're not friends."
Temari couldn't help but give a small gasp. That was not what she expected to hear.
Shikamaru sat upright. "I'm not your friend because I can talk to you about anything, and vice versa. I'm not your friend because I never dwell on your faults, apart from you being so troublesome." He smirked and moved closer to Temari.
"I'm not your friend because I don't like you being around, I love you being around."
Temari felt her cheeks begin to go slightly red.
"So no, I'm not your friend." Shikamaru answered before moving closer and kissing her on the cheek.
"I'm more than that."
Instinctively she put her hand to her cheek and looked at him in surprise.
He got up and walked away but stopped suddenly. He looked back at her and smiled.
"It's getting dark, woman. You coming?"
End.
