They say that life is a journey. And if it is, the real question isn't where you're going. It's who's coming with you.
The Real Question
Introduction
Carly drags Sam by the arm, slowly losing grip on her prisoner as they approach the school building. When Carly reaches for the door, concentration changing, Sam manages to free herself.
"There's no way I'm wasting my Saturday just 'cuz a couple dozen of you crazies are signed up for some long, boring test," Sam declares, turning around to signal her intent to take off.
"Sam! Get back here! You're one of the 'crazies' signed up to take it and you promised to come."
Carly backtracks away from the door to catch up with Sam who is now on the sidewalk. Sam turns back around when she realizes she is being followed.
"I agreed to walk you here because you bought me a smoothie on the way over. I never said I'd stick around."
"This is your last chance to take the SAT before application season starts. Freddie and I have both taken it twice already. You can't just ditch it like some class," Carly insists, using motherly sternness in her voice.
"College isn't a rule, Carls. So I can ditch everything to do with it if I want," Sam replies with an edge to her voice.
"So you're really not gonna try?"
"Nope, and neither are you."
Carly looks at Sam puzzled as she feels her hand being clasped and tugged on.
"I'm not skipping the test. I need to improve my score," Carly asserts while pulling her hand away from Sam's.
Sam reaches for Carly's hand again while shaking her head.
"There's a lot more important things than a four number score."
