Sirius Black was sitting in a corner of the school library, his face wearing a bored expression. 'Extremely bored indeed' he thought, while he pushed 'Hogwarts: A History' away from him and leaned back in his chair, absently-minded biting on his quill. Normally, he would be with James now, the two of them cracking jokes and designing new pranks. But James seemed to be always busy these days, too busy for pranks, for he was preoccupied with the headboy's duties - and with his girlfriend, Lily Evans.
'Well, who'd have thought of this the year before?' Sirius smiled to himself. But, he had to admit, they were a great couple. They seemed to be perfectly happy together, Lily and James. Absolutely no need for a best friend...
But he was being silly. Of course James didn't abandon his friends, didn't he? He often tried to combine his dates with Lily with the Marauder's activities. But still. When he saw the couple holding hands as the five strolled through Hogsmeade together... or in the evenings, down by the lake, when the two sat down arms wrapped around each other, quietly talking so only they could hear, then, although he wouldn't admit it, Sirius couldn't help but feeling a little...lonely?
And, ever so present, there was that little voice in his head, that little voice he had managed to keep down for so long but that was now getting stronger with every day, that kept telling him that everything and everyone around him was changing, if he wanted it to or not ...
'Time to pull yourself together, Padfoot! This is getting stupid!', Sirius said to himself, shaking his head furiously. He decided he needed to get his mind on something else - a prank, for instance. But not just any old average prank, no, the prank of the millenium! But what could that be... Sirius let his gaze wander the room when suddenly he spotted someone familiar, who was standing in front of a bookshelf, his back turned towards Sirius.
'Snivellus... ...excellent', Sirius voiced under his breath. A wicked smile spread over his face as in his mind a vicious plan began to form. This was the idea he had been waiting for. So , Prongs wasn't here, no problem! He'd just prepare everything and tell James later, and they were going to have a blast!
'So go for it, Padfoot!', Sirius encouraged himself as he rushed over to Snape, who was now sitting at a table with a huge pile of books next to him.
'Hey, Snivellus, old pal, how you're doing, mate?!' Sirius cried out in a false cheerful voice, then bent over the table to look into Snape's surprised face. 'Listen', he continued, lowering his voice in order to sound intimately. 'I heard you'd like to find out were our buddie Moony goes every now and then...'
