Never Again
By: Laurette Lene Elderwood
She woke up in his arms with her head on his shoulder. He was leaving that afternoon, and something deep in her heart told her that once he left she would never see him again. He was still asleep, his strong face as peaceful as it ever got these days. She remembered when they were younger, his eyes shone like the stars and were free from worry. He used to laugh, loud and from his belly, his smile stretching across his shining face. He used to hold her and whisper to her, and kiss her just because. Now she did most of the comforting, there was worry and doubt ringing through his every pore. She raised a hand to stroke his cheek, her tears flowing down her own face only to land on his shoulder. He awoke and, without a word, drew his wife to him. Her sobs racked both their bodies, and he found himself crying with her. He kissed her cheek and looked into her eyes. He wiped her tears away, gently kissed her mouth, and whispered in her ear the words of his heart. She held him
tight and kissed him again. They made love, slow and passionate. The sun rose to greet them intertwined in each other.
"I love you, Boromir," She whispered.
"I love you, my Arinen,"
