Lestrade's mental map of London isn't much less detailed than Sherlock's. He can see his route in his head as clearly as any GPS and without some annoying posh voice telling him where to go. (He gets more than enough of that as it is.)
Down Birdcage Walk, round the fountain at Buck Palace; the clock in the car reads 00:14 and Lestrade fights the urge to just floor the accelerator and damn the consequences. Hyde Park Corner, onto the A4, past Harrods, the V & A; Donovan's got to be at least ten minutes behind him. Through Earl's Court, Hammersmith, cut off the A4; London is a red and blue strobe-lit blur as it flashes past the car windows. Over the river into Kew; now he's only minutes away from Old Deer Park and his destination.
Lestrade knows he's got the right place, he's sure of it; feels it in his gut, feels it in the way its name makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. This is where Carl Powers died all those years ago and where Sherlock is meeting the bomber tonight.
He takes the last turn and there it is...
...then it isn't. He watches, horrified, the strangely fateful name still running through his head, as the whole building falls.
Richmond Baths...
