A future predator is a killing machine. Eventually bred by people long-extinct from the same mammalian stock as the first primates, insectivores and bats, it may not die too young, but it still lives a fast life, and counts on speed – albeit augmented by viciousness – to win its battles: after all, its claws and fangs are not particularly long and sharp as far as such things go, and it often has to confront such deadly hazards as the grey corduceps fungi that eats its victims from the inside-out...
By contrast, a gorgonopsid represents how far one can go from a future predator...and still end up with a killing machine. It evolved to survive in an environment that is equally harsh to the post-human world with its' reversed magnetic poles, but it wasn't designed by people, but by Mother Nature itself. Thus, where a future predator was built for speed, complete with bones full of air sacks to prevent shortness of breath and give it speed faster than that of a modern cheetah, a gorgonopsid was built for endurance, to take large amounts of punishment – whether from its prey, competition or the environment itself – and to dish it out through the jaws that can swallow a briefcase whole. When by a quirk of fate and a human design it actually does meet a future predator...
It is no surprise that it is one left standing, leaving the battlefield with the corpse of a future predator in its jaws.
