Shikamaru was lazing under a tree, he was not asleep, not yet, but for him just relaxing was enough.
He was one breath away from total bliss.
Then he heard the steps approach.
They were brisk, sure steps; that meant his unwelcome visitor was not Chouji, he heard the rustling of a kimono, and that ruled out Ino too.
The only person who would look for him disregarding his well deserved rest time was the most annoying of all.
A troublesome woman.
Or, as he had come to refer to her, the troublesome, troublesome woman.
Shikamaru had three simple rules to live by when it came to troublesome women:
1 Do not, under any circumstances, ignore them. It will only backfire.
2 Always pretend to be busy doing something they approve of.
3 If 2 is not possible, brace yourself for the inevitable and pray.
But that day, for unknown reasons, he broke his own rules.
Probably because she didn't sound angry and fed up while she called his name, maybe because instead of kicking him awake or, as she usually did, hitting him with her fan, she just called him a second time, he just ignored her.
He ignored Temari, the double troublesome woman.
He thought that in the worst case scenario, he wouldn't live to regret it.
He was wrong.
Initially she didn't react at all, she did not curse his lazy ass, she didn't shout at him, for a while it seemed that she stood there looking at him.
Shikamaru sweat-dropped. Then he tried to put himself together.
they can smell fear.
He actually debated if pretending to wake up would give away too much of his plan to ignore her. He decided that it would be too troublesome to find an excuse if she found out, better to play dead.
But how dead a guy, even one as lazy as him, had to be not to react when a girl, even one as troublesome as Temari, suddenly went and kissed him?
Very dead, that was what Shikamaru decided.
And he wasn't.
But he was supposed to be asleep, so he shouldn't, couldn't react at all, and before long she was gone.
He sat up, looked around and let the inevitable happen.
He just hoped the shit-eating grin would be gone before he met her again.
