John Blake had always liked Elise Tanner.
Ever since he had met her on the job he had thought of her as something special. So when he was paired for patrols with her, he didn't think he had got the short end of the stick.
She had this confidence that most people couldn't muster up in their whole life. She made a great cop. She cared about everyone, every single little life in this wretched city that they called their home.
He found it amazing that someone could love something as broken as Gotham City.
He had someone that saw something good in nothing. She was someone who had the same ideals as him.
He only knew two people who thought like him, and it was her and the Bat.
He had always thought of her as a good friend even though Elise wouldn't claim anyone as her friend. Weird, huh? He thought it was. Someone who loves everyone should have friends, but she seemed to be one of the loneliest people he had ever met, and that was saying a lot because of his raising as an orphan.
He couldn't tell you when exactly she had made a place in his heart, but she had, slowly and surely. She was there in the small, small category of people he cared about.
He didn't tell her, although god knows it was obvious. On more than one meeting at headquarters his peers had called him down on the way he looked at her, the way he somewhat singled her out. He said it was because they were partners. Everyone has to be friends with their partners.
It wasn't until Gordon said something to him one day did he re-evaluate his thoughts on her. That was when he had figured it out; he cared about her.
So he didn't tell her, because one, he couldn't even think about the awkwardness of that situation, and two, he was better off not doing it.
He liked to think he knew her well enough to know how she would react, and he knew she wasn't one to talk about something like that; she never seemed to have any men vying for her attention, which he found bewildering.
So he was content with their friendship.
He was content with her being his Elise, the head strong, confident, passionate cop who would do anything for her city.
Yep, he was just fine with it.
So! There yah go! I have decided to rewrite the story! It may take a bit but I know this is how I want to do it! Here is the prologue for the 2.0 version. I like this quite a bit! So any feedback on it would be lovely! And thank you all for the response to my authors note! And to any newbies here! Welcome and I hope you enjoy!
