Title: First Days
Note: L's first day at school. He is five in this as that is the age you start pre-school in England where Whammy Orphanage is and where I am.
Beta: Taloolah
Story:
A small pale looking child held the hand of a kindly old man. The child's thumb stuck firmly in its mouth it stared around the playground at the various children.
This child was none too fond of this so-called school place. He wanted to stay home at the orphanage with his carer Watari.
"Watari why can I not stay home and help you as I have always done?" he asked stubbornly, not showing how scared he actually was.
Watari smiled softly and crouched before him rubbing his arms.
"You must go to school so you can learn and expand your brain power." He said smiling. He knew how much of a craving L had for knowledge.
Though he also knew how scary it was on your first day at school. He could see in L's eyes that he was frightened.
"It will be fine my little one. Just think I'll be back in four hours to get you." He said softly.
He pulled off his brown chequered scarf that smelt of him and wrapped it round L's neck to reassure him.
L smiled gently and hugged Watari before a funny looking lady called him in. L turned to wave to Watari before walking into the building followed by this strange lady.
As first days went L thought he did ok. He painted a picture of Watari and him playing cards and ate a yogurt even though he wanted sugary things.
After lunch it was naptime but L never wanted to sleep and that was not about to change here. He sat sucking his thumb watching the other kids sleep. He had only spoken to one and then only to ask for the glue.
He was, as expected, separated of from the others pretty early on, Just because he was smarter then them, because he would rather look at a book with numbers or science in it then a fairytale book.
When it finally came to home time he all but bolted out the door holding his painting tight in his hand.
In the playground his eyes darted for the tell tale sign of a crisp black suit and shiny shoes.
His eyes fell upon these quickly, being the only one to dress like this Watari stood out easily.
L ran over and into Watari's arms that held him close, rubbing his back.
"How was school then L?" Watari asked picking him up and carrying him to the Bentley.
"It was ok, I did a painting of us." He said showing him the cards game painting. Watari loved it and said he would put it up on the wall.
L also told him of lunch and how he was made to eat a yogurt that he didn't like.
Watari sighed and kissed his forehead gently "You may have s slice of cake when we get in L ok?" he asked.
L nodded happily at this.
That night when L was finally asleep in his bed Watari stood before the fire in his office smiling brightly. He looked up at a framed painting; the one L had done of them playing cards. He then sat down and started going over some files.
His smile broadened as he looked one sheet over in particular. It was the form that made him, Watari, L's legal guardian.
