A/N: A missing scene from Day 3 of Don's Two Weeks from Hell as requested by valeriev84. Not betaed.
Summary: After Don's encounter with Charlie, he goes back to the FBI office.
It didn't surprise Don that David was staring at him. When he'd left the office he'd been limping, now that he'd come back he was limping more. The icepack that Charlie had found for his foot had reduced the swelling and bruising a bit, but it was still hurting a lot, particularly in the confines of his shoe. Applying the other icepack to his hip without making his pants wet had been awkward, resulting in Charlie's office door being locked and the windows being covered so that he could undo his pants, and Don could have done without Charlie's horror at the bruising from being hit by the car. He didn't need the reminder of just how bad the previous day could have been. Or the risk that Charlie would tell Dad just how bad it was.
Don sat down in his chair with a wince, closing his eyes for a few seconds. When he opened them again, David had rolled his chair over nearer.
"Don?"
In answer, Don reached down to his foot, undoing the loosely tied shoe and removing it and his sock. The bruising and swelling looked worse than it had before he'd driven back to the office.
"Next time, keep your mouth shut," Don said sourly.
"Charlie." It was a statement, not a question. "What happened?"
"He was coming out of his office, I was going in. He had a pile of books." The rest was obvious, so Don didn't bother elaborating.
David's brow wrinkled and he looked like he was trying hard not to laugh. Don pointed at David in warning, his expression still sour, and David managed to restrain himself, rolling back to his desk after saying, "Sorry."
His team steered clear of him for the rest of the afternoon, which he was grateful for.
He may have been stabbed and almost died before, and this most certainly didn't compare, but he wanted to wallow in a little self-pity. He deserved to, right?
