Beautiful Wings

Her footsteps echoed in the solemn halls. When had everything gone so very wrong? It had been perfect last year. She could still feel his strong arms wrapped are her in a tight embrace. A lone tear slipped down her face, but she still walked proudly down these halls. This was her place.

She could be alone in the Astronomy Tower.

Strangely she could relate to the cold hard stone beneath her feet. It was the the structures backbone. It provided stability for all those who walked on it. The smoke was just beginning to fade from earlier. The wounded were just being healed. Her arm no longer hurt, that was for sure. The mediwitch had been spectacular. Why did her heart still feel like it was breaking?

She bit her lips against the sob that tried to force it's way from her throat as green eyes flashed before hers. Green eyes... that would never open again. She climbed higher her heart shattering with each step she took. Everything was so wrong. They were all supposed to be happy in the end.

... It was supposed to turn out alright...

She could still feel his last kiss as he begged her to stay away from the fight. As he begged her to stay safe.

She turned the handle to the door leading into the Astronomy Tower.

His laugh tortured her mind, his smile ripping her heart out. He'd never... He was...

Her breath came out in cloudy puffs, the air was cold and crisp. She could barely feel her fingers, yet never noticed the cold. Her robes had been torn in the fight and her right hand was still covered in blood. Her knees were still aching. Her mid-drift was exposed to the cold, but it was nothing compared to the numbness that had enveloped her very being.

The stone felt unearthly to her yet so very familiar... They had been here the other night...

"You know I love you right?"

Her own eyes sparkled as she kissed him deeply.

"I'll never let you forget. I'll live every moment, every breath I take to make sure you never forget just how much I really do love you."

He had told the truth. The Wizarding World would only have one more headline about Voldemort. That he was dead.

... And that he had taken Harry Potter with him.

Slamming her fists on the stone and fighting her tears she screamed, "HARRY! You promised me! You promised me that you loved me! Why'd you GO?! I love you Dammit!"

"I'll never be able to look into your eyes again... Why'd you go?" she whispered into the night. "Harry..."

She wanted so badly to be with him. 'God Harry why?'

She stared down at the ground, knowing a fall would kill her. Would it be worth it? Isn't that why she had come up here in the first place? She couldn't live without him... It would be painless and quick... She could be with him again.

She lifted herself up onto the ledge, the wind rustling her hair. She took a shaky step forward and took her hand off the wall supporting her. Green eyes flashed before her eyes and she almost felt a soft touch on her face. The emeralds almost begging her to turn back, that she had so much to live for. He would always wait for her, where ever he was...

"I love you, Harry," Ginny whispered.

... And she jumped.
