Because no matter how strong I get, no matter how many mountains I crush with my fists, no matter how many S-class missing nin I kill, one word is all it takes to break me into pieces .And you'll never know. Because I won't let you see how easy it is for you.

Taking a guess.

A sigh sounded through the room that had been empty just a second ago. The pink-haired girl dropped a bloody kunai onto her kitchen table and poured sake into a cup that was surprisingly clean in a shelf covered in a thin layer of dust and downed it like the veteran she was but shouldn't be.

She picked up trash bags and set about making the house into a liveable place. She fell asleep on clean sheets and covered herself with a grey comforter and curled up under a framed photo of a team that was family, in a neighbourhood far too quiet, in a house that still wasn't a home.

But it was as close as it got.

And as she lost herself to the land of slumber, her former sensei flew over roofs to reach the memorial stone where his former team's names were engraved. He stood for a long time ignoring the rain that fell in buckets.

Was it worth it?

In the bustling markets of Konoha Kakashi saw his former student walking through the crowds a smile on her face as always. Under the mask he smiled. Because Sakura was the one reminder of Team Kakashi that didn't hurt (that much).

It had been a long time since he had seen her. She had been away on quite a long mission this time and he moved to say hello and ask her how it had gone but before he could she was lost in the crowd and though he peered over the heads around him hoping to see the flash of pink that was her head but didn't see her there and leaned back, a bit disappointed.

"Kakashi sempai?"

Whirling around to find the cherry blossom's namesake looking back at him with less life in her eyes then he'd have liked to have seen, and the more he looked the more he noticed the strain in her smile.

"Sakura! Back from a mission I assume."

"Yes."

The silence was not a comfortable one but they were both running out of things to say but the question they'd have liked to ask kept on growing.

"Have you seen Naruto?" She said hoping for the awkwardness to disappear.

"Well he's not on a mission so I assume he's either training or at Ichiraku's." They began walking away from the shops and eventually came to a quieter part where they didn't have to yell to be heard. "Should we go check?"

The surprise on her face saddened him. Was it that odd for him to involve her in his life, he wondered.

"I have to go to the hospital. Maybe sometime later."

He was left standing at a crossroad as she took the path opposite his.

There were a lot of mistakes Kakashi had made in his life. He wondered which one had resulted in this distance between Sakura and him.
