A.N: My first story, so be kind! It's a oneshot, but I will continue if you ask nicely.

Disclaimer: I do not own NCIS, Tony, Kate, or whatever, but I do own a packet of pony stickers that I'd be willing to swap.

Tony and Kate's relationship started with a paperclip.

Small things make big things happen.

"Hey, Kate!"

As his co-worker looked up, Tony flicked a paperclip at her. With amazing accuracy it hit her forehead.

Wordlessly Kate mouthed a prayer, hoping she wouldn't be kicked out of NCIS for killing Tony. Picking up the offending metal object and standing up, Kate made her way over to Tony's desk.

"DiNozzo. Explain."

Tony gulped. Kate stood in front of him, hands on hips, wearing the look she used to interrogate suspects.

"Well, Katie, I was just noticing you seemed a little bored, so I tried to cheer you up a little."

He smiled the smile that he used to let the ladies know he was interested.

It didn't work.

"Oh my God! First you almost take my eye out with a paperclip, and now you're hitting on me! I can't believe it!"

Wincing, Tony desperately tried to make things right.

"Kate, I honestly didn't mean it like that..."

Quickly he got up, but before he could get to Kate to beg for forgiveness he tripped over his bag.

Kate saw him falling and swiftly reached out to catch him. She took his full body weight and tried to find a way she could support him before realising his lips were a centimetre from hers.

Smiling gently, Tony reached up and kissed her.

The paperclip fell to the floor.
