Prologue
"But Dad-"
John Winchester shot his eldest son a look that immediately shut him up. He eyed the seven, nearly eight year old boy in disgust. "I gave you a direct order Dean. I told you to look out for Sam and to stay in the room."
"It was just one mistake Dad, I swear it won't happen again." Dean insisted, eyes wide and pleading.
"The hell it won't, because I won't let it." John roared, slamming a fist on the table. "If I can't trust you to follow a simple rule and keep your brother safe, how am I supposed to trust you in anything Dean?" John continued when he saw Dean about to speak. "I can't." Dean looked down in shame, seeming to curl into himself. "Sam could have died tonight and it would have been your fault. You're going to stay right here and think about what you did and didn't do while me and Sam go out. That's an order."
Dean was left alone in the hotel room, the silence around him deafening. He heard the roar of the Impala as it turned on and drove off, and the tears he told himself to hold in fell like a waterfall. Sniffling he walked to the bed and curled himself into a ball, letting his heart cry its entirety. The little boy fell asleep to the sound of his own hiccupped cries lulling him to bed.
When morning came the young Winchester awoke by himself, stretching in the bed before sitting up, giving the empty room a once over in confusion. "Dad? Sammy?" He stood and walked around the room cautiously. He knew now better than ever to be cautious.
The young Winchesters heart broke when he saw that everything was gone. From his dad's guns, to his notebook, to Sam's clothes and toys. They couldn't have left him by himself, they just wouldn't do that. Feeling himself about to have a panic attack he willed his body to calm down. Sitting down he thought about the possibilities. Despite every scenario running through his mind, the fact still remained that he was alone. Could he survive life alone?
For a second he thought about going to an orphanage, but quickly wrote that off. He would never fit into a place like that, and no one would ever adopt a kid like him, not when there were cute adorable babies there. Besides, he had a family, they just….wanted a break was all. Maybe his dad wanted to test him, see if he could survive by himself before coming to get him. And Sammy, Sammy would most likely be worries about him. Sammy needed him, so he would survive just to get back to his little brother.
Grabbing the things of his that were left behind, he took out the door and snuck into a bus. He didn't know where it was going, or where he wanted to go, but he would rather go somewhere else than stay there. As for the people, they didn't care about a little boy riding the bus for himself. Tines were hard, life was cruel, and they were too busy with their own lives to really care about it.
As the bus took off the driver spoke over the intercom. "Next stop, Gotham city…"
Dean tuned off at the name of the city. So Gotham would be his home.
Hmph, sounds emo, but I guess it'll do.
