Day 2 - Tuesday 11th July

Loss

I keep myself busy with things to do, but every time I pause, I still think of you.

Charlie sat on her couch in her apartment, surrounded by her nerd paraphernalia. She was wearing a green snuggie and humming to herself as she read through the Hobbit again, like she did at least one time a year. She had the Lord of the Rings soundtrack playing in the background. She reached the end of a chapter and remembered the flash of a smile. The tone of voice. A lilt of expression of each word. And sometimes…the voices her mom would use for each character. Her smile turned sad. "I miss you mom," she whispered softly. "I hope you're proud of me." A tear formed in the corner of her eye and slid down her cheek before she turned back to the book. Maybe later she'd make some hot chocolate like her mom used to.
