Hi! this is my first fanfiction so i'm just testing out how this website works, and how my writing fits in. So if you have any suggestions, they would be gratefully accepted! Thank you! Enjoy!
Introduction
Xing was a dangerous country.
A divided nation is never the safest place to live, but add constant crime, poverty and violence, and you can't trust anyone.
It was divided into fifty clans, each of which had their own name, history, and class. Some used to be small countries, and others were so insignificant that they ceased to exist.
There was constant conflict between them. In the past there had even been attempts to over throw the empire, all of which failed drastically, resulting in the execution of many. And if a country has a punishment of execution, there has to be someone to order it.
That was the job of the emperor, the high and mighty monarch, who could honestly care less. Sitting up on his throne, he had nothing to worry about. He had loyal guards, plenty of food and entertainment of all kinds. One of the only ties he had to the people of his country was his many heirs.
Whenever there was a new emperor, one young woman was chosen from each clan to mother his heirs. Other than this, there were no specific guidelines as to which heir would become the emperor or empress. Which leads the country nowhere on the way to peace.
The heirs had no official protection other than their battle training, and, if their clan was rich enough, a bodyguard or two. They were assigned once they and their prince or princess (heir or heiress) had completed five years of training. The guards were often from the same family, and trained to protect heirs in return for a higher standing in society. Once the young heirs met their guards, they would train together for another five years until their fighting level was approved and the guard and master relationship was final. Unfortunately, it was never that easy.
The children of the emperor were constantly being targeted by other clans, sometimes even their own half siblings. Brothers were fighting brothers, clans were fighting clans, and the country was collapsing in on itself.
This is the story of how all that was fixed, by a certain prince who actually cared.
