Title: Good for Laughs
Drabble: #53
Rave's prompt: Rutabaga
Randomly selected pairing: Kenyako
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon.
Notes: Haha. It took me and three other intelligent people a good while of pondering and an eventual search of wikipedia to discover that 'rutabaga' is what I know as 'swede'. So I'll be referring to it as 'swede' throughout this drabble. I hope nobody minds, but it's all the same thing really.
Ken and Miyako had worked hard on their Christmas dinner. Everything had to be timed to precision and foods were rotated systematically. Needless to say, both of them were proud of themselves and each other when they sat down to enjoy the fruits of their labour. Glasses of champagne were also in order since it was a special occasion, even though Miyako had never particularly cared for the stuff. The taste made her feel like gagging, but for special occasions she tried to be tolerant.
One of the vegetables they had opted for this year was swede. Ken hadn't had it for years and remembered really liking it, while Miyako had never had it before but certainly wasn't opposed to trying something new. And what better time to try something new than at Christmas?
After they had clinked their glasses together and agreed that it was a job well done, Ken kept half an eye on Miyako to see how she reacted to her first taste of swede. For a little while she seemed to be avoiding it, but it was as if curiosity got the better of her eventually; she picked some up and, after glancing at Ken, put it in her mouth. Ken watched. Her expression changed a number of times, before briefly settling on neutral when she swallowed it.
Ken couldn't help but laugh when Miyako screwed her face up, obviously deciding that she didn't like swede, and started flailing her hands about her head. He tried to suppress his laughter as he offered her his champagne to wash the taste away, and didn't remember until she started choking on that too that it might just make it worse. One nasty taste was bad enough, but two at once? Ken didn't think that could have been too pleasant.
Miyako had taken the whole incident in good humour, and the two of them remembered it and laughed every year while they ate their Christmas dinner. However, Miyako had insisted that swede was never on the menu again.
