Disclaimer: I do not own CSI Miami or it's characters and I am making no money from this. I wish I was, it would be awesome.
A little more of the hug that happened at the end of 'Lost Son'. And they had better get these two to have a relationship again, I miss it. This is my first CSI Miami piece. Very short.
He closes his eyes against her heart wrenching cries, wishing he could steal all her pain away. He holds on tight to her slight frame, knowing they are both walking a thin line of sanity that could snap at any moment and cause them to fall from the right path. A path they walk that sometimes is so dark, so cold sometimes it seems they can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
A path that haunts with lost souls and broken remains of lives lost.
He can feel her tighten her grip around his waist, her pressing closer to him as if needing to feel that he is real. That this is all happening. He whispers words to soothe her pain, trying to make her feel less alone in all of this. But how can he when he feels the same? His heart constricts as he fights back tears, causing a muffled sob to escape. The carefully constructed wall around Horatio Caine's heart is beginning to break from the strain of emotions.
He has dealt with his fair share of heartbreak. Him unrevealing in the fact he is damaged goods on the inside. He has told himself he can hold it together, they needed him to. But standing here with her in the quiet silence, he allows himself to grieve. To grieve for a lost friend, a colleague. He lets the tears finally come, them slipping down his cheeks as he closes his eyes, the reality of the situation truly sinking in.
He holds her so tight he thinks he must be hurting her, but she doesn't protest. He thinks it's because they both need to feel. Feel something solid, feel something real.
"I'm sorry." He finally whispers apologetically. Sorry for not being the man he knows he can be for her.
"You're human, Horatio. You have a right to feel."
With simple words she sees him for who he is: a man afraid of the future. Who wants to save the world since he couldn't save the ones he had cared about the most. His brother. Tim.
"Promise me you'll never leave me." He demands brokenly and she nods against his neck saying, "Never."
And for now, it's enough. Enough for him to grasp onto and hang on to for dear life, because if not he's worried he will slip and never be able to find his way back.
