A/N: A one shot about what I think should go down after the proposal tonight. Enjoy, and pray for this!
This is everything she has ever wanted and more. The sun is just breaking over the horizon, casting a golden glow on everything. There are butterflies fluttering around, and the white picket fence is almost too much. She wants to laugh out loud, punch him on the shoulder and congratulate him on his joke, but for some reason, her arms feel like lead, limp at her side.
He is kneeling on his knee, his hand is open, splayed like a starfish, and in the center of his palm, is a small velvet box, that contains her future. The ring is more than she has ever seen. It is sparkling so perfectly, that she wants to look away, afraid that her gaze with mar its smooth polished surface.
She can see her face on every plane. On one, her face is shocked, her mouth open, her eyes wide. On another, she is happy, tears are leaking from her eyes, and her mouth moves in a familiar way, yes. On a third, she is angry. Her brow is furrowed, her mouth set in a thin line, one of her arms lift to slap him across the face.
She isn't sure which one she wants to be right now, so she is standing there. He has the most hopeful look on his face, his false smile fading with every moment she doesn't respond. She doesn't know why she hasn't said yes yet. God knows she wants to. God knows she wants to throw her head back, yell yes, and feel his strong arms around her, lifting her to the sky, kissing the exposed flesh of her neck so delicately, she feels like she is actually worth something.
She wants to see him smile, the way he used to before they broke up. She wants to feel the way she did when they came together that one day in the trailer, their minds and bodies one thing. She wants to feel the familiar pressure of his lips over hers, his hands cradling the sides of her face.
Her eyes wander, not around the ring, but to his face. The corners of his mouth are turned up, a smile so simple and genuine, that she can feel her heart break in two right inside her body. Her arms finally move, bringing her hands to cover her mouth, her eyes finally leaking the tears that she had been holding back.
He lowers his head to the ground, finally admitting to himself that she doesn't want him. But she does. She wants him more than she's ever wanted anybody in her entire life, so she puts one of her hands to his face, caressing the soft skin of his cheek. He looks back up at her. Something behind his eyes has died at the thought of rejection.
When she finally utters a quiet "yes", his eyes come to life. He springs to his feet and wraps his arms around her waist, hugging her tightly thanking her for loving him. He lifts her high, spinning her through the air, and she laughs, something she hasn't really done in such a long time. She feels alive again, she feels like she can do anything, because she has him at her side.
