It's Just Not Funny
Author's Note: My second one-shot. Not much to say about this one, just that I never really though about the pairing. I don't own Animorphs. Enjoy!
You know how the main character always wins the girl? No matter what?
I'm pretty sure I'm the main character. I am, after all, Marco the Awesome. I'm cute, I'm smart and I'm funny. Girls love me, what can I say?
So, naturally, that would make me the main character, right?
The funny guy always make an interesting main character. What's better than humor? Nothing. There's nothing better than laughing. It's better to be laughing.
Face it, Marco. As funny, as smart, as cute, as awesome as you are you're not the main character. The funny guy isn't there to lead. He's there to break the silence. When the author of the movie, book, whatever has nothing to say the funny guy is there to keep things going. He's there, but he's not the main character.
I'm the funny guy, the cute guy, the smart guy so I don't get the position of the main character or the girl.
That's why, while I'm standing off to the side making sure Ax doesn't eat his own hand, Tobias is dancing with the most beautiful girl in the room.
Which is odd, because I don't think Tobias is the main character either.
Although... I think it's actually Jake who's the main character. But, you know, incest. I think it's illegal. Also a little weird.
But still, I don't mind.
The others are together, it's cool.
They need it, you know? War does stuff to people. They can't handle it. I can.
As I look towards Rachel and Tobias, and see Tobias suddenly run off, I think about that lie I just told.
Rachel watches Tobias leave. She looks at me.
I don't have to worry about a two hour time limit, Rachel.
I'm human, Rachel.
I could be there more, Rachel.
She smiles sadly and runs after him.
She knows I have no two hour time limit, she knows I'm human, she knows I would be there. But it's not about me, it's not about her.
It's about him. Someone who's not the funny guy or the hero or the warrior or anything. He's the birdy one.
Birdy.
No matter how much Rachel and I want to be together we can't be.
Because Rachel and Tobias and Cassie and Jake. They need people there for them.
I don't need it. I can handle it.
I mentally laugh at myself.
But the truth is, it's just not funny.

Ending note: I think this one turned out pretty well. But let me know what you think anyway.
