The shadows glided across her wall like two dancers expressing their love through a seductive tango; an intertwining of color with darkness. Of hope with tragedy. Beauty and sadness. So important, that the initial impact ignited a spark, as though Night and Day had crashed against each other; for the first time becoming one. And she held her breath.
As though it belonged there, the shadow heightened and stretched; swallowing the wall within its path. In the wake of such sadness, she allowed her mind to envision the shadow returning home after being away far too long, and the wall allowing its consumption; grateful for its presence once more. She watched the black mass absorb within the cream texture; the uniting of two different entities. And her heart broke.
"We're two different trees, Scully. Apples and oranges. But our roots, they entwined and overtime we became one. One tree."
She closed her eyes; fighting back the tears. In her mind, she saw another uniting. This time not of shadows on walls, but instead, the joining of two bodies. She could hear the beating of their hearts. The trembling of hands as they searched along damp skin, finding there, hope and fulfillment. His gentle kiss upon her collarbone. The gentle touch of his fingers tracing circles along her hips. The shaking of her legs as she crashed against him. The way her arms never left his neck as another wave came over her; and she sought his shore, his comfort. Her consumption; like shadows on walls. Their breathing heavy and profound. Finally, succumbing into a ball of hot liquid lava within the satin sheets. Making love was never more beautiful.
She was crying now. Infinite, agonizing tears within his shirt. The shirt he had worn just two days prior to his abduction. She couldn't bring herself to wash it; afraid to lose the scent of him. She curled the fabric within her arms, bringing it closer to her heart.
"Our bond, Scully, is unbreakable. It's you and me forever."
She could feel his presence within the room; within the shadows and walls. He was near, if only in her dreams. "Forever and ever, Mulder." She spoke aloud, knowing that somehow he would be able to hear her.
She slept then; holding his shirt, clenching it to her heart. Binding herself to him; where she belonged, like shadows on walls.
The End.
