THE BLACK FAMILY SQUIB
Everyone believes the Black family to be only pureblood, I mean, that is what they've been projecting for as long as they existed and after all, their family motto is "Toujours Pur". Alas, things are not always how they seem, have you ever heard the tale of Rigel Black? I didn't think so too.
You see, Rigel wasn't like his siblings or parents. Rigel never showed any magical ability and didn't receive a Hogwarts letter by his eleventh birthday. Rigel doesn't even remember anything of his life before the age of eleven. He doesn't remember his parents, or even his siblings. And siblings he did have; Sirius Orion Black and Regulus Arcturus Black. Because Rigel was a squib, a disgrace to the Black name. He was obliviated with no remembrance of his early childhood or his family. Rigel was then dumped on the doorstep of a muggle orphanage, christened as Anthony. Some may say it was cruel what destiny had befallen him, but some may have not witnessed the other squib cases of the 20th century.
It was in 1965 when Rigel Cetus Black was born, the third son to Orion and Walburga Black and younger brother to Sirius and Regulas Black. Growing up he was much doted on by his father and older brothers, a bright and lovable child. He hardly ever complained, for he saw no need to, he patiently sat through all his etiquette and dark arts lessons and just adored reading. He could lose himself in books for days on end, from muggle literature to wizard fantasies, from Shakespeare to The Tales of Beedle the Bard. He never understood why his mother was always impatient when he couldn't get his cutlery just by wanting it, he tried, he really did, but it just never worked how he wanted it to. When Sirius first got his Hogwarts letter, he knew it was big deal, everyone was fawning over him, his day was made when Sirius actually let him touch the letter ... he just couldn't wait to get his own! And then two years later, when Regulus' letter arrived, Rigel was more than eager waiting for his to arrive.
Then, four years later on his eleventh birthday, he waited, but it never came. But then again, there was still time, I mean his birthday was in September ... guess he's just have to wait, right? Every day, for a whole 11 months he waited and waited and waited some more, he was patient after all. But come August and he still never received his letter. That's when everything went downhill for Rigel Black. And that's when Orion and Walburga Black made the decision. I mean, it was full justified for they just couldn't have a squib as a son, as a Black family member, it was just wrong and beyond reasoning.
So young Rigel was obliviated, no recollections of his life whatsoever and he was placed in a muggle orphanage. A much better fate his parents argued than what was waiting for any other squib child, much better than death. With this in mind, they obliviated Regulus and Sirius too, after all, why should they be burdened with knowing about a brother they no longer would know. It was all justified and the completely right thing to do. There just couldn't be a Black family squib. The Black family would remain pure. Toujours pur - always pure.
