SF-A2 miki didn't believe in bad days.
She also didn't believe in gods, fate, or energy drinks, but that was beside the point that she was trying to make.
Bad days were physically impossible by the natural laws of the universe. Her sister Yukari told her so. She had told her that the possibility that enough things would line up and go wrong to cause a bad day was astronomically small. One in a billion wouldn't even cover it, she assured her.
And yet, somehow, Miki was having one of those days.
It had started very early that morning. Very early. Like, four thirty-three in the morning kind of early.
Miki was awaken by the distinctive sound of her new puppy Orion throwing up. How the little black lab had gotten into her room in the first place, she didn't even stop to consider.
As she shuffled downstairs to grab the cleaning supplies, she stubbed her toe on Yuki's wagon while she was pushing her hair out of her face. Howling in pain, she jumped around on one foot for a bit. What she didn't count on was her foot landing on Iroha's new pet cat, Kyoko. As the cat screeched and Miki cursed under her breath, the rest of the AHS household continued to sleep in peace. Somehow, that didn't seem quite fair to Miki.
By the time nine o' clock rolled around, Miki had somehow managed to reign in her temper. She was going to be pleasant at breakfast, even if it was the last thing she ever did.
When Miki slid into her place between Iroha and Yukari, Luka smiled at her. "Well, now that everyone's here, Kiyoteru and I have something we want to tell you." Her smile grew wider and leaned forward as if about to tell a secret. "You're going to have a new little niece or nephew in a few months~"
Miki choked and nearly swallowed her chopsticks.
At eleven o' clock, it became apparent that she and Yukari had just lost their first soccer game of the season.
At eleven o' five, Miki was forced to shake hands with Ritsu and congratulate him on a "good game". As she walked away, one of the other players tripped her.
At lunch, Luka was craving brussel sprouts and kale. Miki decided to take a risk and skip lunch. As she thumped upstairs to her room, she spotted a suspicious mound of shredded papers that could only have been Kyoko's handiwork. Upon closer inspection, it proved to be her favorite astrology book.
At one o' clock, she made Ai cry.
At one thirty, the door bell rang. It was Len.
"Hey, Mii-chan! Look, I was wondering if you would like to go out with m-"
At one forty-five, Kiyoteru received a furious phone call from Meiko, asking what the hell he planned on doing about his lunatic of a sister who went around breaking nice boy's noses.
What he planned on doing was making his sister go out with that nice boy after all, as an apology.
At two o' clock, she made Ai cry again and Yuki.
The next few hours passed without a hitch, and Miki was regaining confidence in probability and its effect on bad days. Sure, she had had a few terrible hours spent earlier, but that didn't constitute a bad day, did it?
And then, at five, something occurred that made her positive of that fact.
The doorbell rang again and, from her seat on the sofa, she could see that it was none other than her new best friend, YOHIOloid, back from touring in Europe, accompanied by his family and pet Cubi.
Jumping to her feet, she raced over to the door. As she launched herself at him in a big hug, she slipped and banged her forehead right into his, successfully knocking him unconscious.
As she felt the world spin and stars began to obscure her vision, she decided that maybe, just this once, bad days were entirely possible.
