A ray of morning light shone in through the windows of the quaint mountain home, waking Yuffie up from her slumber. The first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was Vincent's sleeping face. She smiled, loving how calm and peaceful he looked. Carefully, she got out of the bed so to not wake him up. Looking around the room, she spied her clothes that had been thrown haphazardly the night before and went to pick them up, her face burning with the memory. She quickly dressed herself and went to pick up Vincent's clothing and neatly folded them, putting the small pile on a chair for him. She tiptoed to where he lay and gently kissed his cheek lovingly before heading outside to watch the morning sun.
Yuffie stood on a cliff overlooking Wutai and gazed at her beloved hometown. It was true that she had come here only because of the recent bombing of the pagoda, but deep inside she was glad to be back. Her homeland filled her with a mixture of many conflicting emotions. Wutai was a reminder of her mother's death and of the time when her father had abandoned her out of selfishness. All the hurt, bitterness, and loneliness from that time washed back into her heart along with the immense love she had for her homeland. She both wanted to be here and to run away as far as she could. The past memories were too painful, and she wanted to escape. However, she knew that running away would not solve anything.
She remembered how her father's rejection had stabbed her straight to her soul. Her only living family member no longer wanted her. All she wanted was to be loved, but even that was denied her. The love she had for Wutai amounted to nothing, only reducing her to a thief stealing materia in hopes of rebuilding her homeland's former glory. In a way it was an unrequited love. She loved her homeland, but her father, the living symbol of Wutai, did not love her back. That was what she had believed. The one she needed love from had shunned her. The world was a cruel place, stealing her mother's life and then her father's love from her.
But now she had found a new kind of love, the one shared between two soul mates. A smile appeared on her lips as her thoughts wandered to the sleeping man in the small mountain home. All the love she wanted and needed now lay with him. He was the receiver of her love, the keeper of her heart. The love she had for her homeland in the past paled in comparison to the love she now held for Vincent. Deep in her heart, she knew that if she had to be exiled from Wutai and leave behind her heritage in order to be with him, she would do it in a heartbeat. The only thing she needed was him and his love for her.
