Time Travelling
Unspeakable Saul Croaker touched the heavy doors leading to the Department of Mysteries. He walked past the door leading to the Time section, and passed witches and wizards working on various projects, such as: Creation on Time Dimensions, Blocking Time, and some others about which even he had no knowledge about.
Although he was the Head of the Department, he never knew all the ins and outs of it. It was highly dangerous for any single person to have such vast knowledge of the enigmatic branch in the Ministry. Heads of the subdivisions carried most of the data under them, and reported what they felt necessary to him.
Unspeakable Bode stepped up from behind his desk, "Sir. I have the device required. Do you require my department's assistance?" Bode inquired politely, though Croaker knew he was thrilled to go on any educational experience and would jump at the chance to accompany him.
He smiled slightly, "No, thank you. Do keep me updated on the progress of your latest project, though."
"Of course." Bode assured him, and handed him the time turner they had arranged for this occasion.
After a quick salutation, he left for his own office.
Croaker had subtly interfered with the Grindelwald, the second greatest Dark Lord Europe had in centuries, himself. Veered him towards an unfortunate location where the confrontation with one Albus Dumbledore had occurred earlier than it would have without his manipulations. He had saved hundreds of lives with this course of action, and had successfully intervened enough in other dark forces before they became a bigger disaster.
He turned the time turner twice.
Saul had prevented the making of two Dark Lords between the era of Grindelwald and Voldemort. Honestly, Britain sometimes needed a whole other department for handling Dark Lords, so efficient were they in producing them. Though Tom Riddle had fooled him for a long time, too long. He couldn't prevent the ripples created by destroying Voldemort destroy the entirety of Great Britain as well.
Round and round.
The Unspeakable had gone on several other missions as well, sometimes with or without Bode, and these missions were related to various different things, ranging from Heliopaths to magical explosions to Fiendfire. It was enriching, though extremely dangerous work. If they corrected more than what was advisable, they might come back to a completely changed world. Or not come back at all, and just fade into non being like Vanished objects.
Again and again.
Saul Croaker had done this several times, yet this circumstance felt different. That was to be expected, of course, he was meddling in the destiny of the one and only Harry Potter.
Two more times.
The Head of Department would influence the Potters into making Sirius Black their Secret Keeper, and into mildly distrusting Peter Pettigrew. He also hoped to guide Dumbledore into suspecting Horcruxes as the reason for Tom Marvolo Riddle's 'immortality'. He was getting closer, but not close enough to the secret of The Dark wizards eternal life. It was not surprising, all things considered. Horcruxes were the blackest of magics. And Merlin knew Dumbledore tried his best to remain distant from them since his friendship with Gellert Grindelwald. Perhaps after this discovery Albus would be able to end Voldemort's reign of terror.
And as he flew back in time, his nerves thrumming due to the sensation, he sincerely hoped to create a better future for all.
