A/N: This is my entry for Eternally Seventeen's Monsterrific Competition! I choose the Hippocampus as my chosen monster and about Annabeth interacting with the hippocampi. I also wanted to hint how the Hippocampi are monsters and beautiful creatures at the same time.. Enjoy my little story.

I am locked in this palace. I came here for happiness not to be imprisoned. This is my only sanctuary yet it is the only place I feel suffocated. For the water so beautiful from above, only brings misery to me down below. I am a caged bird. Or rather a caged owl, for that matter. That is until I met the monster. The monster, a creature of breathtaking beauty. The monster that made me forget it's true identity.

The creature looked through the window of see-through glass. Though I felt as if it could see into the depths of my soul. It locked eyes with me. It then left, leaving me with a lingering feeling of hope. Yet I was still trapped. Trapped in this underwater palace I once called home. I next saw a blurry figure, rapidly coming closer. The glass shattered. I thought I was free, but I forgot I could not breathe. The next thing I saw was black. I opened my eyes expecting to be locked in the palace with Percy's concerned eyes looking deep into mine. When opened my eye I saw eyes. Not sea green eyes but jet black eyes. It was the monster. The monster had saved me.

I could feel the warm sand surrounding me and the salty waves lapping at my feet. The creature was submerged in the water with only its head sticking out. I stood up slowly and waded towards the creature with my arm extended. I gingerly touched the creature's snout. It neighed, causing me to fall backwards into the water out of fright. The creature then leaped out of the water. It was a glorious sight to be seen. It's vivid colors glinted in the sunlight. It's majestic body soared into the air with ease. It's fish tail was painted with the vibrant colors of the sea. All my fear had been replaced with awe.

The creature dove straight into the water without the smallest splash. It swam towards me and nuzzled me with it's sleek snout. I ran my hands through it's rainbow mane causing it to come closer. It then motioned me with it's tail to climb on. I cautiously sat on the endearing creature and wrapped my arms around it's neck. The creature dove into to the water again with confidence and I held my breath and closed my eyes. The creature then leaped out of the water. I felt like I could have stayed in the air for an eternity. The cool breeze against my skin jolted me back to reality just as the creature dove into the water again. It then swam as close as it could to the beach. I assumed this meant that it was time to part ways. I slid of the creature and walked to the sand in my soaked clothing. I turned back just in time to sea the creature leave me. I expected the creature to give me a sign, some sort of goodbye after the moment we had shared, but alas, the creature didn't ever turn back. This made me remember, the creature, was in fact truly a monster. I had mistaken it for a friend. So I leave you with this: was the creature a friend who wanted to rescue me or a monster that had decided to pity me.
