Chapter 1:
Fire rustled in her sleep, causing her thin sheets to slip the rest of the way off her body and to pile gently on the floor at the foot of the bed. The brief exposure to the cool air of midnight aroused her senses by sending a gentle chill up her naked side. Rolling over onto her bare stomach she reached her hands out in her sleep soaked daze searching for the familiar shape of warmth she had become so accustomed too. Her touch was instead met with a sharp coolness of empty space. A sharp pain that had nothing to do with the chill of the night had an immediate affect on her senses. She lay there in the stillness of the light with her pillow caressing her cheek and staring blankly the empty blackness beside her. After a moment her eyes adjusted to the inky black of her bedchamber and confirmed what she already knew, Brigan was not there.
Shutting her eyes tightly she rolled onto her back and attempted to recall the leathery sweet smell she had come recognize as inherently unique to him. After a moment the scent filled her nostrils and a flash of his dark features, set off by those calm gray eyes swam into her mind. The slight dimple of a smirk hovered at the edge of her memory, she couldn't help but mimic this expression on her own face and she allowed her hand to gently caress the bare flesh of her stomach enticing a shiver to run over her skin.
Brigan
His name caused the muscles of her lower abdomen to clench gently and she squeezed her thighs in light response. Next came the broad shape of his shoulders in her mind, and the muscular line that ran down his back only to be interrupted at the meeting of his well muscled backside. Fire allowed her finger tips to venture lower and lower passed the scars that ran over her abdomen lower still to a teasing and mounting throb that was beginning within her. She felt his lips gently caress the thin skin that covered her collar bone, felt the wetness of his mouth begin to trickle their way down lower and lower until at last it rested a top the peak of her chest teasing her further. Her fingers ventured further yet and finally, feeling the gathering sensitivity at her edge. Her other hand mimicked his imaginary lips and began to gently squeeze. This unfamiliar sensation cause her lips to part and a breath, heavy with neglected want to escape them.
Brigan..
Breathing his name out loud Fire slowly opened her eyes, and the true emptiness of the room rushed in, any evidence of the previous moment vanishing. She stared blankly at the moonlit ceiling and heard the distance screeching of the monster raptors, their wails filling the empty night. The distant noise made her uneasy even from the comfort of her bed, and it took her another few minutes until she could slow her heartbeat and calm her heavy breathing. She swallowed the dry air and felt it move down her throat a thick mass reminding that she was alone.
Brigan…
A moment passed and the pain in her chest became sharper than before, she knew even before she whisper his name in her mind, there would be no response. It had been over a month since the royal troops had heard any news, and with this thought, the panic set in.
