Dreams of Flight (155 Words)
by Marlen
~~~
Lifting his arms up in the air, he makes his request known.
"Daddy, I wanna fly."
Unable to resist his son's plea, his father lifts him up into
the air higher and higher until he swears he can touch the
clouds.
The wind tingles his skin and with arms straight out for proper
navigation, he proclaims, "Daddy, I'm flying. I'm flying..."
He wakes not in his comfy bed adorned with innocent puppies and
kittens, but in a cot with a scratchy old blanket to keep him
warm...it doesn't.
It wasn't supposed to be like this.
He shuts his eyes in an effort to recapture the feelings of
warmth and love he felt in his dream...his past, but it's too
late.
Twenty years too late.
He will have to wait until another opportunity for sleep
presents itself...another opportunity to feel safe in the arms
of his father.
Right now, he's got a future to fight for.
~end~
