Resurrection (155 Words)

A flicker of his past lingers in the fringes of his mind.
The man he used to be.
A man he loathed.
Pathetic. Needy. Weak.
So eager to please -- like a lapdog, willing to do anything for
his master.
Like so many before him.
Another soul sacrificed for the greater good.
But he was not like the others.
His ability to elude fate and play the game -- severely
underestimated.
It didn't take long to master his craft of twisting and molding
the truth to meet his needs.
Countless opportunities for redemption at his fingertips, but
temptation for self-servitude proved too sweet to resist.
No heroes to be found here.
That title belongs to another suffering soul.
He has a date with a destiny of his own making.
He looks forward to the numbness from the everyday pain of life.
He will feel like a God.
Or the devil incarnate.
Either way, humanity be damned.

AUTHOR NOTES: I just couldn't accept Krycek's fate in
"Existence." I'd like to think that he would go to extremes to
survive no matter the consequences.
