Chloe/Clark, Clark/Lana

Part 1/1

Author's Note: Takes places sometime in the far, far future. Kinda got the 'Chloe running from the Luthors' idea from another fic, but I customized it.

Companion to 'Freaking Out'

Summary: She had it all figured out.

"Hey, Clark." Chloe grinned wryly as he whisked her away from some big guys in black.

"Wh-what did you say?" Clark said, nearly dropping Chloe on top of a Metropolis skyscraper.

"Did I scare you? I guess you can give the farm boy superhuman abilities but you can't take away his awkward ways."

"Chloe?" Clark said, looking into the blonde's eyes.

"That's me. I am almost offended you didn't remember me."

"I ---never---"Clark stuttered, nearly dropping Chloe again as her giggling body tickled him.

"I'll tell you how to get to my apartment and I can take care of some scrapes, then we can talk. You've got some explaining to do." Chloe said, then giving Clark directions to her apartment on the East Side.

"Seems to me that you have me all figured out. No one else from Smallville has."

"Well, there are some missing pieces." Chloe replied as they gently touched down on her balcony. "Come on in, I'll just go get some band-aids and hydrogen peroxide." Chloe said as she opened her balcony door into the house with the number pad hidden behind a potted plant.

"Nice place. But I'm a little dirty, so I think I'll stand." Clark replied.

"Help yourself to anything in the fridge. If you even really need to eat--- " Chloe trailed off as she drifted into a room on the other side of the mini-kitchen.

A few minutes later, Chloe appeared in jeans and a t-shirt proclaiming 'Meckler High School: 50 years and going strong'.

"Do you want anything to drink? I can make some Crystal Light or something." Chloe said as she opened a cabinet in the kitchen, leaving Clark staring at her from the counter.

"What happened to you?" Clark asked quietly.

"I became a teacher, and apparently science labs didn't work well with my wardrobe. Now I save my outrageous stuff for when I go out." Chloe grinned, twirling around like a model.

"I meant---with the Luthors---and then you left---I never got to say MY good-bye."

"For a while, I didn't think you wanted to. But I put the pieces together, Clark, a lot sooner than anyone, including anyone with Luthor blood, did. I left to save you. Thus, the hair and the clothes, and everything." Chloe responded, motioning to herself. "You know the Luthors can trace, find, and monitor just about anyone. But not once you know how they do it." Chloe smiled as she got herself a glass of water.

"You never told anyone."

"Nope." Chloe took a sip of water. "You really thought I would?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I did---" Clark said. "Then that day, in the barn, I wanted too---"

"But it was too late." Chloe said, finishing for him.

Clark nodded and began to examine Chloe's floor tiles deeply.

"Hey, I'm a teacher now. I'm smart. I got it all figured out. I'm not mad."

"You're not?" Clark asked, looking up again. "I thought you would be, just like Lana was."

"Ah, Lana. I must say, all biases aside, you two are the densest people I know."

"I get that a lot---when I'm not flying." Clark grinned. "So you know--- you've known---and you've never told." Clark repeated, processing everything he had just learned.

"Never plan to. And I'm not going to go crazy, either. I've taught long enough to learn to cope."

"I never thought of you as an teacher."

"I'm actually writing a screenplay, but something's gotta pay the bills." Chloe replied. "You have anyone else to save tonight, or do you think you could stay awhile?" Chloe asked as she made her way into her living room.

"As long as you promise not to freak out."

"Never."
