((Hello! Here there be spoilers. I go with the assumption that Maka is going to have to kill Crona in the end. I tend to be pessimistic with story lines, so if there ends up being a happy ending with SE, I'll write happy threads to go along with it, but for now, here's a dark drabble.))

'Tick, tick, tick, tick.'

Her mind now said it with the clock, hoping to scare away stray thoughts of how she felt. It never really worked but a piece of her prayed every day that it would.

Unbound blonde strands fell around the young meister as she stared at the corner of her room that had a sliver of light creeping through it. Soul was awake, had been all night, and people had come in and out of their apartment wanting to speak to her, but she couldn't face them. Not now, not after she had killed her friend, one of her best friends, and then people expected her to be okay with it. Just the thought of it rocked her to her core, and she trembled, sinking her teeth into the inside of her lip.

She rolled to her side, and noticed the picture frames where Soul had removed the photos of her and Crona before she had gotten home from the briefing with Shinigami-sama, 'Probably for the best, it only would've hurt more.' she thought, turning her face into the pillow, she sighed.

'How long am I going to have this guilt?' she questioned, before closing her eyes and slowly drifting off into sleep. As she sunk deeper and deeper, the young meister could feel something very off occurring.

Rising to her feet, the meister acknowledged the darkness surrounding her before stepping forwards. A gasp left her lips when he foot touched the ground, every where she stepped a lilac colored ripple traveled out and confused her. "What in the world…?" she whispered roughly, before continuing on, glances being tossed around because even as she walked, there was no movement in the air.

Her breath caught when she looked in front of her, panic rising in her throat, and eyes widened as she trembled, "Crona…" she whispered. The girl in question turned to face her, a calm expression on her face for once, instead of the usual worried shyness Maka had grown to know and love, or the crazed madness that she had come to hate.

Crona smiled lightly and extended a hand to Maka, which she readily ran forward and grasped. "Maka, we were.. friends.. right?" she asked and a nod came quickly, as tears soaked her cheeks. Crona sighed and looked at their hands, "Then why are you so sad? You saved me from hurting so many people, which I could have never handled." sobs shook Maka's form and she reached forwards, gripping Crona to her.

"I miss you, so much." she gasped in between cries, her arms tightening around her long gone friend, and sighed in relief as she felt Crona's arms wrap around her.

"Maka, we'll always be friends, even when you leave this place. I just had to say goodbye, and say thank you, for rescuing me from… myself." the girl said in her ear.

Even as Maka clung tighter she could feel Crona drifting away, "No! Crona, please, I'm sorry!" as she looked at the face of her friend, she paused, Crona looked at ease, and at peace.

Maka sucked in a harsh breath of air as she shot up in bed, tears soaking her pillow, as she frantically looked around for Crona. She jumped off her bed into the living room and was shocked to see her father, Death the Kid, Black*Star, Soul, Liz, Patti, Blair, and Tsubaki all sleeping in her apartment. Her door closed behind her from her open window pushing it closed.

Her father, Black*Star, and Tsubaki woke up first, and at their shocked faces at her form, Maka wasn't really surprised, she kind of looked like a mess. Tsubaki walked forwards first, and wrapped her arms around her, "I'm sorry sweetheart." she said, and soon she felt more and more arms envelope her as she cried.

'Friendships that really matter, last forever.'
