Supernatural: Destiel

Warnings: Spoilers for season 9 episode 10

Description: An alternate scene for the beginning where Cas tries to comfort Dean who is naturally distressed after the events of episode 9.

"What happened?" Cas asked, staring around at the broken lamp and scattered papers swept off the desk.

"Kevin is dead. Killed by the angel possessing my brother. Sam..." Dean's clenched fists slammed onto the table and he leant on them breathing heavily.

"Sammy's gone." He choked back a sob. "He's gone, Kevin's gone. And it's my fault. IT'S MY FAULT." He yelled this last part, then threw over the table which hit the ground with an almighty crash. Still yelling, he began pulling books off the bookshelf and throwing them against the wall.

Cas watched silently, wishing he could make it all better. Physical wounds he could heal but this...this he was powerless to fix. And it was breaking his heart.

When the room was suitably trashed, Dean collapsed sobbing to his knees, head in hands, knuckles raw and bleeding from the many punches he'd thrown at the wall. Cas approached him and knelt next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"I should never have allowed that feathered bastard to possess him. I should have let him go. It's what he would have wanted."

"No Dean," Cas said. "You wouldn't have been able to do that and you know it. Sam is your brother, naturally you wanted to save him at any cost. You could not have foreseen this. This not your fault."

Dean looked at him, eyes glistening with tears. "I've lost him Cas," he said hoarsely. "What am I gonna do?"

"We will get him back." Cas placed emphasis on the 'we'. "We will get your brother back, and put an end to all this. Together. Okay?"

"Okay."

Cas pulled him into his arms and Dean continued to sob quietly into his shoulder. "Okay," Cas whispered. "Okay."
