Boromir drifted off into sleep when a hand smacked him in the face. "Ow! Fari! What was that for?" Faramir was tangled in his blankets again, trying to free his small body so that he could snuggle with his older brother. Brown hair hit Boromir's darker color's, and at last, Faramir was seated next to him, shirt slightly off, a blanket wrapped around him.
Boromir giggled slightly and shook his head at the sight. Faramir's large eyes looked at him innocently, and he asked a "What?" as he moved closer. Boromir shook his head again and wrapped an arm around his brother.
"Do you believe in Halflings?" Faramir asked out of the blue.
"I dunno. Do you?" Faramir shrugged. "I've never seen one."
"Do you believe in Elves, though?" Boromir nodded to this.
"Yes, of course I do believe in Elves! They exist, I think." He paused to think in the dark. Faramir yawned. "Would you like to go back to sleep?" Faramir shook his head, stubbornly. "Fine."
An hour or so passed and Boromir started to drift off again. Faramir's eyes were still wide open in a petrified stare on the wall. He breathed slowly, as if he were sleeping, but Boromir could still see the faint whiteness of his eyes. The room was pitch black now, and Boromir was the only one asleep by now.
Another hour passed. "Faramir, did you do anything before sleeping? Eat anything?" asked the eldest brother sleepily.
"I walked around the castle and talked to mommy. Nothing else." Faramir was obviously telling the truth. His innocent eyes were back on Boromir. "I did try to read one of the books in the library. The were too big, though." Boromir sighed and hugged his brother tight against him.
"I'll call in father if you don't sleep," he threatened to Faramir, wanting a moments peace to sleep. Tomorrow was going to be a busy day in Gondor. Faramir squirmed from his older brother's grasp and quickly jumped onto his own bed. Boromir let his tired head fall against the pillow and drift back asleep. Only-
"Faramir, put that down and sleep." Faramir obediently dropped a book and put his head down on the pillow, pretending to sleep.
"Faramir, I can see your awake. Now, tell me why you won't sleep." Boromir sounded worse than father, Faramir thought in fright.
"I read this book," he started. Boromir sighed and fell back. This would be a long story. "Well, actually, mommy read it to me, and in it, a man could see into the future."
"Was he an Elf?" Boromir asked monotonously.
"I think. I'm not sure. But anyway, in a dream I had, there was a sword that spoke to m-" Boromir cut his talk off.
"A sword talked to you? Pht!" He leaned back again, giggling. The giggles turned into silent laughter, and he couldn't sit up again. "A sword talking?" Another wave of giggles.
"Seriously!" argued Faramir to no avail. He 'hmph'ed and rolled to face the wall rather than the laughing Boromir. "It did too happen."
"Of course," Boromir managed. "A sword talked to you. Now, can you get to sleep that your let it out?" Ye gods, Boromir though, I sound like one of those odd nurses.
Faramir ignored him this time. There was no use. "I'll sleep if you turn the lights back on."
"What lights? Were the lights ever on?" Boromir asked, looking at the unlit candles near their beds.
"I mean those lights." Faramir pointed up at the sky, of which dawn was breaking and the stars dimmed. "I can't sleep without them on!" Boromir smiled at his brother and pat him on the head. "Turn the stars back on, Boromir," Faramir whispered as they both fell asleep.
