REMEDY FOR PERMS

Shinsuke had always found the little, book written constituents to attain the brand of samurai, annoying.

What honour, when all he saw was baseless pride?

What rules, which could be twisted to the whims of pretentious high nosed nobles?

What bonds, when all they did was chase after imaginary fame?

'They're a bunch of morons, not capable of understanding the big picture.' He thought.

"But you don't either." Kotaro had told him when he gained insight to Shinsuke's thoughts.

Then Shoyou had come along and Shinsuke felt as if he could see a clearer view of the picture he had always searched for.

It was sometime after a tiresome spar; Shinsuke was terribly stingy for he had lost to Gintoki again. Even Kotaro's pickle filled rice balls couldn't make him feel less stingy.

"You should have faith in yourself." Shoyou had patted his head. "Through faith, a miracle occurs."

"You don't have to feed us that crap, Shoyou." Gintoki had answered, while munching on a plum rice ball.

"My perm won't turn silky through faith."

Shinsuke and Kotaro had snorted and began to pass around comments like, "You'll need a million miracles to get rid of that perm." "Leave it Zura. Even millions are not enough." "It's not Zura. It's Katsura."

And the conversation had been lost after that.

Looking back, Shinsuke had still snorted when he struggled to stand when logically he could no longer do so.

Consequently, Gintoki knew Shinsuke was in no way reduced to Hunks 'a junk.

Why? It might be related with the crap Shoyo had filled their heads with long ago, which while they still denied had ingrained themselves into their way of samurai.

Both of them agreed that it was due to faith.

Faith in themselves.

Faith in each other.

And faith in everyone else.

Because when the transmitter had gone silent for a moment and Gintoki assumed that Shinsuke had nothing more to say, a quiet voice broke through the silence.

"Since I ended up using the miracle, I assume you're perm is still there?"

Gintoki paused at Shinsuke's statement, running his hand through his silver curls.

"Yeah, it's still there."
