Folk Tails
Summary: Centuries ago, The Kingdom of Olympia was divided into two, the land and the sea. They lived in peace and interacted with each other. But now, mermaids are considered as a myth. But what happens when a certain gray-eyed princess meets the dark-haired prince of the sea?
A/N: I do not own Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
In the Kingdom of Olympia, centuries ago, land folk and mermaids lived together in perfect harmony. Mermaids interacted with humans on a daily basis. The children played together and learned how to swim at an early age. Some mermaids can even turn into humans, and vice versa. Though uncommon, the idea of humans and merfolk marrying is not unheard of.
Some were prejudiced, of course. Mermaids believed that they were superior. Humans believed that they were superior. It caused trouble, at times, but was usually quickly resolved.
There were different rulers for 'The Land of Olympia' and 'The Sea of Olympia.' Still, they managed to have peaceful ties with each other.
Until a new king was appointed. Now, this king was different- so much different, form his father, who was king before him. He was extremely prejudiced. He hated mermaids; his sister married a merman, and he felt betrayed.
And so, he made a new rule. He made sure that The Land of Olympia was separated from The Sea of Olympia. He engaged in war with The Sea, with the help of nearby kingdoms.
Finally, The Sea of Olympia distanced itself from the land. The sea folk swam further away from them, near several islands.
They lived amongst themselves, the mermaids. They weren't allowed to go to the mainland. The humans weren't allowed to go near the deep waters.
Within centuries, mermaids were considered as a Folk Tale, a legend. Sometimes, residents of Olympia can see mermaids swimming amongst themselves from a distance, but once they blink, the mermaids are gone. Because of that, they usually assume that mermaids are just a part of their imagination.
But some still believe in the existence of mermaids. They can see them from time to time, hear their voices, while wishing that they can meet them.
A/N: Short prologue, but the next chapter will be longer.
