Buffy was sure Willow was somewhere around the world cackling like a very stereotyped witch right about now and for that, Buffy was going to kill her. Actually, she was going to kill her for another reason; whatever she did afterward was because of the assumed cackling.
The day started out all non-Willow-interventiony, with Buffy waking up to flowers on her bed. She knew who put them there, but she wasn't sure how he managed to do it. He was stealthy, she knew that, but her slayer senses were sharper. She should have heard him, but he somehow got past her abilities. She also wondered just why he put the flowers there. Flowers weren't his thing, they were too chick flicky for him. Those were his words, not hers, but the "y" was definitely all her. He thought the way she spoke was cute, but he'd never admit it.
She picked up the flowers to smell them and noticed a very large wad of money, with a note attached.
The note was short and sweet, Have fun shopping, meet at the beach at sunset for some slaying and something more.
Dean Winchester knew exactly what made Buffy happy. He saved up money for her to shop, they were gonna meet at the beach for slaying and they were doing "something more". She knew what the "something more" was, since for Dean that usually meant sex, and she had no problem with that. It was the beginning to what she believed to be a perfect day.
Rodeo Drive would never forget her face with the amount of things she purchased, neither would a small mystical weapons shop she managed to find. It actually didn't take that long for her to shop, so she spent the rest of the day with Dawn and Willow trying to figure out what Dean had planned. She vetoed Willow's idea of popping over to where ever he was and finding out. She wanted to know, but she still wanted to be surprised. Of course, that didn't stop Willow from finding out herself and telling Dawn, which led to why Buffy was going to kill Willow.
She put a spell on her!
Rather, she already put it on her, immediately after Sunnydale fell, which meant four years before. That much she was able to get from Dawn, but no more, other than several laughs at her expense. So she now had two things to figure out. What spell Willow put on her and what Dean had planned. Make that three things, the third being why what Dean had planned affected Willow's spell.
She wasn't able to fully interrogate Willow as she had teleported out and the sun was close to setting anyway, so she headed for the beach. She almost made love to Dean right there as he took her to a nest of vampires for her to take care of. Satisfied with her job, she did just that, which was totally not in her nature, but she didn't care. All that mattered was showing Dean just how much she cared for him.
After satisfying her slayer urges on both fronts, she lay with Dean, staring into ocean when the thoughts started creeping in her head.
Was this relationship with Dean more than what it was?
How did he feel about her?
How long would they last?
It didn't take her long to realize the answers. She loved him.
She, Buffy Summers, loved him, Dean Winchester.
"Dean."
"Yea?" his voice calmed her.
"I lo--"
And then she heard it, a loud dinging sound that came from her chest.
And that was why she was going to kill Willow because she knew the moment she heard it just why what Dean had planned affected Willow's spell.
Unfortunately, Dean heard the noise, as well.
"Buffy, did your chest just go off?" His eyebrows rose. At her slow nod, he kept on, "Why?"
Speaking slowly, more for her comprehension than Dean's, "I think⦠I think I'm done baking."
Damn Willow and her magic!
