Both boys looked at each other, feet away, standing in the halls of the abandoned building. They had both chanced upon each other moments ago, and now each was confused, suspicious, and angry.
Kirito, a grade A thief, had called this building home, or as much of one as he had, and then this idiot stumbled onto it. Not only would he have to relocate, the witness had to be taken care of. He had liked it here. It was dark, fine for keeping him sheltered, and good for hiding certain loot. He never spent too long at one time, but it was one of the few places he felt comfortable. He gritted his teeth.
Kaoru stood defensively, knife in hand, looking at the black clothed figure in front of him. This was bad. He had been looking for a place to hide for a while, after all murders were usually heavily investigated, and thought he had struck gold coming to this place. His murders were usually precise and calculated, but this would have to be an exception. He wiped the blood from his knife on his jeans, they were already bloody anyway, and opened his mouth to speak.
In that moment, loud police sirens sounded not far away. They locked eyes.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" They shouted in unison. After that there was no time to waste. They both took off running, unfortunately in the same direction. The area wasn't particularly good for hiding, with only a few trees or bushes occupying the relatively empty field. There stood a large lush tree that both boys had their eyes on. They sprinted toward it and reached the trunk at the same time. With no time to process that they had chosen the same hiding spot, they scrambled up, taking shelter in the thick vegetation.
