***REPOST***

thanks to my awesome BETA for this story: SingReader

she did a real great job on this one :)

Ok, ladies & gents, I had this idea somewhere in the back of my mind … and since I finished my last story, I thought hard about it … really hard, since it's definitely AU… and I actually thought my last story would be my LAST STORY …

Thing is … I thought about, WHAT IF … what If, in another dimension, Anna was successful when she traveled back in time, and what if it hadn't been about killing Mary & John, but instead she had something else planned?

What if Sam were never born? Then Yellow Eyes killed John at the Cemetery after Jake unlocked the gate of hell (all hell breaks loose). What if …... their reality was completely different because Anna gave Mary suggestions to avoid the deal with Yellow Eyes and manipulated things so that Mary got killed before she ever got pregnant with Sam? What if… Anna then betrayed Mary by telling Yellow Eyes that Dean's mum was out to break the deal?

... He would have killed her anyways, right?

Well then… Sam's soul would have had to find its destiny in another family.

Prologue

And that's where our Story starts …... let me explain the basics: :)

Sam was never born, at least not as John's & Mary's son, but let me tell you guys: His soul still found its way down to earth. So, Dean was their only child. When he was 3 years old, his mother died in a house fire, which was started by a Yellow Eyed Demon called Azazel, when Mary tried to break her deal with him.

At this point, John changed and became a hunter, always on the road with his son.

Hunting Things, Saving People, the Family Business.

Dean spent most of his toddler years with Bobby Singer's, an old friend of John's, at his salvage yard where the young Winchester developed his love for muscle cars. Later, when he was old enough, Bobby and John showed him how to defend himself from monsters and creatures. When he seemed ready, John took Dean with him, showing him how to hunt the creatures in the dark.

Dean was a natural, like he had been born for it.

After a while, there were rumors among the hunters… about children … kids… special kids. Kids that had special abilities, DANGEROUS abilities. That was when Dean began to question if what they were doing was right. At some point he began to question whether he wanted to be a hunter anymore. But he trusted his father, and he trusted Bobby even more.

He was barely 18 when he overheard a fight between the two stubborn men about the special kids. Dean knew that his Dad and a couple of other hunters had a plan, but when asked, John refused to tell his own son what was going on. Then came the night that Dean had went downstairs to steal one of Uncle Bobby's beers, and finally heard what his father's plans were.

The young man swallowed hard upon hearing the words of his father. His guts turned upside down and he went pale as he sat on the stairs in Bobby's house, listening to it all … it made him sick, sick all the way down to the bone.

These kids might've been poisoned with demon blood, but it didn't mean they were evil … it didn't mean that they weren't human … Dean was sure about that … they were just kids who hadn't had a choice in the matter. They didn't get asked about any of it. Listening to his father, Dean knew what would soon be coming. His dad had worked out a way to track them down, and while they could find most of them … it was doubtful that they would find them all, and that was something Dean was secretly glad about.

"John, you can't just walk out there, and start killing innocent children!" Bobby nearly screamed, and he seemed to be about to punch the other man in the face. "They didn't ask to be a part of this. Just because they're tainted with ... whatever the hell this is … it doesn't mean that they're dangerous, man. These kids have families, they have friends. You guys can't just go out there and slaughter them. They are humans after all," Bobby tried hard to gain control back over his voice. "HUMANS, John. We are supposed to protect them, not kill them."

"You think I don't know that? You think this is easy? I have a kid myself, Bobby. But we can't stand by and watch one kid after another falling for this demon. I've found a way to track them down, lightning storms, and weather patterns, all of it. It's pretty simple … and we can be sure about it. We can save the world from whatever this demon has planned, if we're fast enough. If we do it, before it's too late." John was nearly panting with the strength of his conviction. In fact, he sounded so convinced of his plan, that it nearly broke Dean's heart … they were just kids

"It won't even hurt them, Robert. Pastor Jim made up a poison. It's fast and painless. They won't even realize what hit them. We don't want to make them suffer, Bobby. We just want to stop Yellow Eyes' plans." John frowned, looking at Bobby like he was expecting his absolution and forgiveness, and also his consent.

"No, John. I won't help any of you to kill children. I won't … there has to be another way, and you know it." Bobby turned away, pinching the bridge of his nose. "What about Dean?" he asked after a few seconds of silence.

"Dean? I haven't told him yet." John hesitated. "But I will, and he will understand how important this is."

Bobby sighed. "You're making a mistake, old man. Just don't pull Dean with you into this mess. Let him stay here." He turned around to face John. "He won't like it."

John just shook his head. "I can't. He has to understand why this is important."

That was the last time, for a long time, that Dean saw the Singer Salvage, and he still wished that he had remained there with Bobby. That he had stayed far away from the murdering and killing and the realization that some hunters just weren't that "human." A fact both Winchesters realized pretty fast.

New of the special children spread like a wildfire in the wind, and it happened that some hunters didn't just kill the kids. They slaughtered them, sometimes their whole families and worse. Some tortured the children, hoping that they knew something about the plans of the Yellow Eyes.

The things Dean saw … the things he heard from other hunters … the things his Dad said to him; it was all too much to bear. Dean left his Dad when he was 26. Splitting up was the only way to be certain he wouldn't kill the old man for his points of view. John had left him the Impala …. His baby. Throughout the years, the car had been the one constant in his life … his only steady friend …his biggest love so far in his short life. Climbing inside and starting the engine, he returned to Singer Salvage, looking for shelter.

A year later, Dean managed to kill the Yellow Eyed demon, but only after the demon had killed his father. It was too late though. One of the psychic kids, who had somehow avoided being found all those years ago, had opened a gate to hell, and let out a whole lot of evil spawn. That was when a second wave of "accidents" and "disappearances" started. All of kids left were about 24 years old now … and some of them were just looking for help when they realized that something was changing within them. Healers, wiccans and psychiatrists … that's where the hunters found the needed information to track them down and get hold of the rest of them.

So yeah, Dean hated it. He hated everything about it. He hated his dead father for dying and leaving him behind with this huge mess. He hated the other hunters for just seeing black and white. And he hated himself most of all, for being part of the whole thing. For all the blood he had on his own hands. It felt like only yesterday that he had seen the boy, barely 15 years old, tied down to a chair … his blood everywhere; the kid barely alive, as his father made him end it. His own father wanted him to kill the boy, a boy that, in another life, could have been his brother, his cousin … his family.

He hated the hunter who had done that to the kid. The hunter whose fault it was in the first place, that his dad made him kill that boy. An innocent kid, who wasn't even aware of being a monster yet. And Dean had asked himself, all those years ago, when did everything started to go so damn wrong?

…... to be continued
